27+ Monitor for coding?

I am looking for a 27" or bigger monitor for coding. I was considering the Dell U2711 but reviews seem to suggest that the panel is glossy and probably more suited for video and Photoshop.

Can you guys recommend monitors which will work for long hours of coding?

yep, two monitors, one in portrait mode to see lots of lines, should give you enough space.

No, the u2711 is not glossy, it has a matte coating.

I have 4 of them and unless you need the pixels I would go with the u2410 for half the price. It's about the same amount of real estate albeit with larger pixels... but, how small is your text going to get?

Unless you are into some sort of graphics apps I would save the money for something more useful... ssd's or awhatever you need.

I use hp2711 for movies, games and coding. Overall have no complaints. Its a $350 monitor unlike $800-$1200 for U2711...

I'd suggest getting a PVA or other VA based panel for coding. The viewing angles really help if you use multiple monitors especially in portrait mode. Black text also looks much nicer.

go for the higher resolution to see more lines. imagine what you can do with 1600x2560

The higher resolution gives you the capability for smaller text that remains crisp. Smaller than I can use on a regular basis.

I think a pair of 16:10 24's is the sweet spot for cost/size.

If you are just using your system for coding you really don't need to spend big bucks on an IPS panel, you could save quite a bit of cash and go with TN or, as suggested, PVA/VA panels

It doesn't really matter for coding and I'm a coder. What's more important is: resolution, screen size, and # of monitors.

Def go for 2 monitors. Also try for 1200 rather than a 1080.

yeah if you code a lot 2 monitors.

i always have 2 at work. at home i get by with 1, but it does help having 2. maybe if you had one big 30" or something, but 2 is cheaper usually.

Hmm the "problem" I see with the HP 2711 is that it looks like it's 1920x1080 (1080p). I feel a bit bummed at times when my Dell U2710 are only 1920x1200 when other 27" monitors are 2560x1600. I mean... dual 27" monitors is a LOT of "real estate" to look at too. I sit probably about a foot and a half away and I've never had monitors where I have to look up to see the top of the screen! Although, I should probably just lower the monitors to avoid that (height adjustment is sorely lacking on a lot of monitors).

what about the new Samsung S27A350H with LED backlighting? its absolutely gorgeous!!! its 1080p but the colors are just insane!

What do you guys think of the Asus PA246Q? I found some user reviews on the U2410 mentioning that the text is pixelated and not very clear.

Thanks for all the suggestions guy. I am going with the HP ZR24w. Less than $400, IPS panel and the reviews all seem to suggest that text performance is very good.
