27" LED Backlit Display Advice

As the title suggests, I've been thinking about upgrading my display to something bigger in the 27" area. I also want LED backlit. So far I found only a few models on NewEgg by Asus, LG, and Samsung. If you have any model suggestions please post your advice. Thanks!

I have the apple 27-inch, it's hi-res (2560-by-1440), LED backlit, and IPS.

there's no other option for led backlit, higher-than-1080p resolution, >24" displays.. at least not for under 2k$

What type of usage will this monitor see?

Usage will include the following:
- design work (photoshop/illustrator/etc)
- development (visual studio/sql)
- movies & gaming

Also I think I'm fine with 1080p, I looked at the prices and anything above is way above my range, I'd like to keep this below $500

Yeah I know screen real estate will be the same, I've been wanting to get a 2nd monitor for my home PC and figured might as well get something bigger (I currently have an Acer 23")

I've had problems with Asus in the past, not with the monitor itself but with the presets that it comes with. The color is really washed out by default and you have to spend time calibrating it, this also seems to be true about this and other models according to feedback on newegg.

It is true that a midrange TN panel will have some outrageous presets, but ASUS isn't the only one that does this. Pretty much any manufacturer will do this because most people are attracted to oversaturated colors and insane brightness for some reason.
