27" IPS LED 2560x1440 $365 at MonoPrice

Great price. The only drawbacks AFAIK are no inputs other than DL-DVI and the stand is hard to remove if you want to VESA mount it.

been trying to buy one these.. maybe someone can tell me exactly what i need if i want 27+ with osd be nice..
Grand Total
$403.16 after tax ship and disposal fee.. maybe something better on ebay or diff place that includes the needed cables?

Speaking as a person who is currently typing on a 27" Shimian (a very similar monitor from Korea). I would eagerly recommend this for anybody that is using their desktop constantly.

IPS

make the picture so much nicer. Monitors are meant to be loved, my Shimian has treated me very nicely.

It seems like this monitor is glossy, just like most other Korean eBay type monitors. I'm still looking for a good 27"-30" matte screen in the $300-$500 range.

Look for the PLS versions of the Korean eBay type monitors, you can select whether to have glossy or matte. The PLS is the name that Samsung uses to refer to their type of IPS monitor. So instead of getting the typical LG IPS display panel, this PLS would get a Samsung panel. Similar concept, just a different panel. Should be similar price to the IPS ones.

I went with a u2412m because I was afraid the characters or bots would be too small at 2560x1440 in a game.
It is almost impossible to use a u2412m in any semi sunlit room.

PLS looks like what i want.. The PLS from what i can tell looks almost as good as ips with no reflections coming off the glass? im in for a 370$ pixel perfect one from Korea unless someone says its terrible idea 😉 still confused what gfx card ill need if a 4890 will do anythign with it and what cable will need if only one dvi. but im sure ill figure it out THANKS!

FYI they are also in the process of getting one that supports HDMI and Displayport, that should be around $100 more.

I have seen a lot of cheap IPS displays at newegg. Are IPS becoming mainstream? They used to be niche and expensive (meanwhile, I have not used a TN display in at least 10 years). (MVA and IPS only). My first screen was TN though but those may have been the only thing around in 2001.

im not sure about mainstream yet but they have gained a ton of ground in the enthusiast market. i cant help but think it was driven by the cheap Ebay ones from SK

doesn't work on mac's right?

Or is that just the 30"

Depends on what you mean. For MacBook Pro with thunderbolt, you need a mini displayport to dl-dvi converter unless you get the model that has display port natively supported. I've used my cat leap with my mbp without issues.

Funny how the prices have gone up, I got a cat leap for $280 when they were first on eBay.

Fry's, today, have a 27" LG IPS for $268 with DVI, HDMI & VGA. It is 1080 resolution.

You can return within 30 days if you are not satisfied also.

This is at the Texas stores. Don't know if the sale is the same at all locations.
