27 inch 60hz 1440p vs 24 inch 144hz 1080p?

I have a GTX 1060 6GB and I sit fairly close to my desk and love to do gaming and work, I will probably get 2 of these displays, but which one is better for what I am doing?

Well having two 144hz is pretty pointless since you'll only be gaming on one and you don't need 144hz for regular usage. 1440p is much nicer than 1080p for regular usage as well.

Why not one of both unless you want them to match? Its very personal taste. I prefer higher resolution over higher frame rates while others prefer to sacrifice resolution for higher framerates. Completely depends on the games and settings and CPU as well if you want to get the most out of a 144hz monitor.

I have a i3 6100, will this be able to handle the 1440p or the 144hz? or both?

Well it depends on the game. If you can't get > 70 fps (CPU bound) then buying the 144hz won't be worth it. 1440p doesn't use any more CPU than 1080p, just more GPU power.

Really though, I'd go to a store and try them out in person. You can probably do 1440p vs 1080p in store but for gaming @ 144hz 1080p that might be difficult. But see if the 27" 1440p vs 24" 1080p makes a difference to you.

Go 4k dude. What are you scared of? Just turn the settings down. I was typing this as a joke, but now I'm actually serious lol. I love my R9 290 at 4k and your 1060 6GB should give similar perf.

However, if you're too afraid to run with the big boys, get 1 of each monitor...
It doesn't make sense to double up like Bacon said already.

In all reality, just get 1440p 60 hz and 1440p high refresh monitor or something. You've turned this into an either or situation when it definitely isn't.

You could even go 2 1440p monitors with refresh ranges that are higher than 60 hz but lower than 144hz....

You have options dude. Lots of em. Like TONS!!!!!!

Really this is such a hard question to answer though. To me, 4K or nothing. 4K is the best for productivity by far. My QNIX 32" 4K monitor is glorious for work.
Gaming... I like having a high refresh rate, but I can't get it at 4K, so meh.

We need to know what games you're playing too that need high refresh rate. Do you need it in a CS Source.... or in The Witcher 3?

I mostly am playing Overwatch right now but sometimes play The Witcher 3 and World of warships, and sometimes CS;GO

Really, this is a budget question. Finding the best deal within your budget, not an either or question. You should define a budget, then find slick deals to get the best thing possible.
I'd have at least 1 high refresh rate monitor and 1 high resolution monitor.
Ideally, I'd just got 1440p 144hz monitor.

I can only guess at your budget range and when I see Nvidia users with budget GPUs the best monitor options are usually way out of your price range.
