bare with me, any help would be appreciated

well ok ill start my story. it all started 6 weeks ago, when i thought it was time to boost my tired old athlon 1.2ghz by getting a new mobo. well i went and bought a new mobo (albatron) only to find our case was too small (since we bought it pre-buitl) so off we go to buy new case, and of course new ram, ddr400. so we put it all in and of course nothing works bugs all over windows. i try all that i know to get it going but no luck. so we take it to an IT guy he mucks around with it and really doesnt achive anyhting, he reckoned it may be a virus (as all IT technicians reckon problems are in your computer if somethings wrong) we were using the same old 30g HDD and the IT man reckoned if we upgrade to a fast HDD not only can we format the old one and destroy the "virus" but we'll have a faster comp. so of course i get a nice 120G. again nothing works we take to another guy and this time he thinks we installed something wrong and damaged the mobo. so he took it off our hands and ordered a new one (MSI KT4V.) new one goes in still nothing works.... so again we call in yet another guy "well it is running a bit hot" i knew the athlons were quite hot so i thought with this new mobo we might as well get a new cpu and a massive heatsink (since i plan to overclock it all in future) so everything arrives and is all fitted.... again windows goes in and still theres errors everyhwere, wouldnt let me go into "my docs" or "my computer" error reports everywhere and log off errors etc. by this time i was stressed and cursing the damn thing and contemplating its end being with a sledge hammer. so i gave up and we bought a new pre built computer and thats what im on now and its working great. so now whats happening is i have a redundant computer sitting there, all hard drives erased and when it loads windows "fatal system error" and theres some code and it wont go any further.

now when attempting boot up since ive had the new cpu, athlon xp 2600+, it says its a 2500+. when i bought a 2600 and it even says it on the cpu itself its a 2600 we took it to a shop to be tested, worked fine and was a 2600 but as soon as its in there its a 2500.... would this have anything to do with the stability of the system? is there something wrong we did in the process? what would you reccommend?

it is as stands:
msi kt4v mobo
athlon xp 2600+ cpu (though it says its a 2500)
512mb ddr400 ram
radeon 9600pro
120g maxtor HDD

thanks for your time

I had read a similar post somewhere else ( can't remember which one, since I read a hundred threads a day) He was told that the vcore may be to low and to bump it up slightly. Lower vcore defaulting the processor back.

Only other thing I can think of, update your bios. Use someone elses machine to DL it, if need be.

You should have posted here before you went out and spent a fortune on a pre-built computer. You need a more powerful power supply, plain and simple.
