26.7 GB gone, just because I moved a folder??

....so I finally got my old partition working, and could view it in my freshly installed win xp pro... I made a folder called "needs to be backupped", and began transferring all the files from my old partition, that I wanted to keep through a total format, to this folder.. for instance I moved the folder containing all my video footage, 26.7 GB, to this new folder - before I moved it, I could view and play all the videos.. after the move, suddenly I can't even enter the folder, windows says: "folder is inaccessible or read-only" (something to that effect).. !!!!! If I rightclick=> properties, it says the folder amounts to 0 byte.......26.7 gb gone in an instant, how???? how do I retrieve it?? please help

Maybe its just a permission issue. Take ownership of the folder.

maybe windows spell checker got pissed off because you called it "backupped" instead of "backedup"

btw check if you can access the folder from the command prompt.

weird thing is, that I can copy and open files fine, but then when I move them, they fail to "exist"... although they must be on the HD somewhere !

That doesn't exclude permission issues. Do you have ownership of the folder itself?

yes, I would think so? There used to be windows on that partition, but I deleted it... I have only created one user, for myself.. how do I make sure I have ownership?

Btw, if it was a permission issue, wouldn't a rightclick=> properties show how much space the folder uses?

According to windows, there are 50 GB on the partition.. but when I hightlight all folders, and rightclick => properties, there's only about 7- 8 GB, so they must be hidden somewhere!

its definately permissions.... you'll have to reassign the permissions on the folder to yourself...and its not showning you the properties and file size because you dont have permission.
right click, properties, security, advanced, permissions...you fix your problem from there.

*First, you need to uncheck "use simple file sharing" open explorer>tools>folder options>view>scroll to the bottom and uncheck above.
