I hope someone checks to see what the cas latency is for this chip, might just be a good deal after all.Text;)

hmm....i'd assume it would work for a thunderbird i want to build, but until then what do you suppose my chances are that it would work in a SiS board Packard Bell Cel. 400???

what is it about this stuff that makes it incompatible with older chipsets?

This is SyncMax ram, same as the stuff sold at the same price at JCShopper.com.

I got this and was read in windows automatically. I went from 128 to 384, although I don't notice much of a difference. Are there any memory tests out there to find out all the info of the speeds and junx. I also heard that on windows 95 and 98 you don't notice much more of a difference after you get past a certain amount of ram.

For those who did not get this yet, I would not buy unless your mother board in on the list.

This is for jcshopper.com: I've been able to contact their customer service with no problem. People keep posting that it's not so good, but I bet thats when someone orders it even though their motherboard isn't on the list and they're mad they have to pay 20% restocking fee.

If you have a Asus P3V4X be careful since syncmax makes three different 256MB modules and only one is useable in the P3V4X. S256M16038-7 is the one you need...

fragarific, you may wish to check out SiSoft Sandra 2000. You can do several benchmarks to see exactly how well your memory is performing. Yes, at certain point Win95/98 will not improve much more but you can never have enough for Win2k/NT. :)

Do NOT buy from PCCOST, if you do you'll be sorry! With all the cheap 256 around this should be your last stop.

I will let it fall some more. When the prices start going up again, I will buy some.
It's embarassing that as a Computer Engineering major I have to ask this:
Is there any real difference between CAS2 and CAS3 running at 100 mhz? Do you save a cycle on memory access? How does it affect performance?

PC133, hmmm

I have been out of the game for a few months, but if I remember correctly, isn't an AMD system about as picky as they get about memory?

That said, wouldn't any memory that is AMD approved be good for any motherboard?

Also, I've read enough posts to have learned that unless you are REALLY utilizing your CPU, the difference between 256mb and 128mb is nill.

Although, at these prices, WGAF!!!

What's the Bill Gates quote about xx amount of memory being all that you'll ever need? You may not need 256 megs of memory now (at least not if you avoid graphics manipulation software, video software, and high performance games), but in the future it will be a requirement. Now, with the onslaught of RDRAM and more likely DDR Ram in the near future who knows what will happen to SDRAM prices. If you decide to stick with 64/128 mb's now you'll either be kicking yourself or lauding yourself when it comes time to make the upgrade. I think 4megs/dollar is a decent deal, but then again 100dollars/meg used to be a good deal so who really knows :)

I think (not sure) that these sticks are uncompatible with thoes boards is because they use the high density chips that the 512meg chips use and are only one sided.

Either that or it's just marketing.

But, ofcose, if your board can use 512meg sticks then I'm wrong.

I have bought from pccost many times and never had a problem. They gave me a new floppy drive for free when mine died a few months after I got it, and I have built systems for friends with the majority of components purchased there. Their customer service is pretty good. Not amazing, but above average.

Has anyone tested the memory to see if its junk. How does it compare to mushkin 256mb cas3 or other brands. I'm a ferm beliver you get what you pay for. And to me, if performace sucks, it isn't worth buying. Even when its that cheap!!!!!!!!

Thanks :) ... I just forgot the amount. That is actually higher than I thought it would be. Just wanted to put things in perspective for people - 128mb will not be enough even one year from now.

http://www.syncmax.com
has a pretty good Adobe Acrobat dcoument at http://www.syncmax.com/PDF/TN001025_256_32Mx4_compatible.pdf
which tells about the incompatibility with most motherboards
of the SyncMax (or other brand) 256 MB modules that use the high density 32x4 chips.
The only problem with that document is that the listing does not state every
incompatible chipset like Intel 815, etc.
I guess since those DIMMS are only compatible with a few motherboard chipsets, it is
easier to list the ones with which it is compatible.

As a follow-up to dkcs' warning, does anyone know the model number of this module? SyncMax makes three 256 MB DIMMs, with a varying level of compatibility.

If anybody buys this and receives it, please check out How to read product code on module and let us know.

TIA.

I bought some ram that can work at 133 only. It is working at cas2 and no flubs or weirdness. I paid $250 shipped. I received it in four days. Not bad, but don't try to call b/c the 800# is always busy for me.
It wouldn't do anything past 133. I bought two sticks. I don't have to worry about game lan/server. I forgot to say it was 2x256mb.
It is super cheap right now. I almost want to buy more.
