Could always try to run it at pc2700 speeds. Ram quite often has a good amount of overhead. As long as you aren't looking to run that ram at very aggressive timings (i.e. 2-2-6) I wouldn't hesitate on trying, provided that your bios allows such tweaking of course.

I don't know what Kingston memory OM is selling right now, but "in general", all currently manufacturered memory will run at PC2700, even if it says PC2100 on the package/sticker.

I would have to disagree with a previous poster that either Kingston or RK-Byte has trouble in AMD boards, I've been running several boards with these FAR modules, up to 185MHz, and no, I"m not just not noticing the errors, they run Memtest86 and 3Dmark for days with no problem... the main problem with these sometimes-barely-spec modules is when trying to use 3 of 'em at the same time, or adding one as a 3rd or 4th module. Otherwise it has EVERYTHING to do with the stability of the specific board, not the chipset/CPU/etc.

PC2100 and 2700 CAN be mixed on the same board with no problem, you're just limited to the slowest speed supported by the "weakest" module used.... so that might be 133Mhz, or higher, can vary.

kingston has started bland-labeling the chips, as least the five (that the guy came back out from the storeroom with) were
bah!
i bought one as a courtesy for making him do it, but of the five he brought, three had been opened already... smelling obox there
i'm not gonna bother opening this one for sure

I did notice that when I tried to interleave KByte memory on my MB, that I started experiencing errors. Maybe I need to play with the timings a little, but the Crucial sticks I had in there before worked fine in interleaved mode. I think it's just luck of the draw on how good/bad your sticks are.

this spectek ram only runs stable in P4 rigs.

I had 5 of them from the deal 2 months ago, and the were free after rebates then.

in amd rigs they will work ok for a little while, then all of a sudden it will crash or error or freeze or something,.

this is from testing multiple AMD boards and multiple P4 boards.

the P4 rigs would loop 3dmark01 all night, the amd's some would bench 1 or 2 time but they would cause a error, I only seeed to get problems when runn 3d intensive stuff, in just desktop stuff they were ok most of the time.

I am sure there are people out there who bought these and will never know they got flakey ram , cause they will never play a 3d game.

If you can find some KByte running Elixir RAM, it actually runs pretty well. I have a PC2100 stick running dual channel in my A7N8X alongside a Kingston ValueRAM stick. It had issues at first, but the 1004-1006 BIOS run it just fine.

It sure has run better than a 512 MB stick of Corsair Value Select PC2700 that I was running in the same board. It ran fine for a month or so (even with it in one channel and the two PC2100 sticks in the other channel) and then suddenly crapped out for no apparent reason. Now the system won't even boot relaibly anymore even with it as the only stick of RAM. At least it has a lifetime warranty on it, though.
