Dell Home and Home Office has a 256 MB Sandisk Mini Cruzer USB 2.0 flash drive for $42.46 delivered. The regular price is $49.95, but they have an automatic 15% off, and ground delivery is free. Here's a direct link to the item. This is a decent price especially since no rebate is involved.

Note that these Mini Cruzers are quite nice--they are USB 2.0 and fast. I had a 128 meg one that was unfortunately ripped off. So I went back to my Lexar USB 2.0 flash card reader with 128 and 512 MB compact flash cards, and jeez, I totally forgot how slow they were in comparison. I don't have comparison numbers, sorry. So now I have ordered another one of these to get back to the speed I was used to.

Also note that Sandisk now has a free downloadable "CruzerLock" security app on their website. This didn't exist, or at least wasn't offered as a free download, when I had my 128 MB version that was ripped off. I have no idea whether this app is good or trash, but hey, it won't cost anyone anything to try it. The download can be found linked off the Sandisk Mini Cruzer page.

What are the differences between the regular sized SanDisk Cruzer and this mini-Cruzer?

Grab a dime out of your pocket for comparison, and check out the picture on Sandisk's Cruzer Mini page. It is pretty small, in fact that is why somebody probably walked off with my first 128 MB one.

The original Cruzer was significantly bigger, and used SD/MMC cards so it was "upgradable". It was also USB 1.1 which can make larger transfers a little bit trying on your patience. The Cruzer Mini is fixed in size/capacity.

Note that the Dell website says 3+ weeks for shipping this item. But in the past I have ordered items with a similar tag, and they shipped in just a few days. Whatever the case, if you are in a rush, this is probably not for you since they might actually take a while shipping it out.

Man... I hate it when there is tax. Just had to be in one of the few states that has tax on dell.com orders! Bleh.

I almost bought one of these. If you want something very "sexy", get the one I have. It's compact and fits in the "key" space in my wallet. Also, it supports USB 2.0 speeds (7MB/sec write max & 8MB/sec read max).

Too bad I can't get an awesome deal for it (have to pay the price), but I think it's worth it. Besides, since it's in my wallet, they'd have to steal my wallet to get it!

hey Drujb, one thought came to me after looking at that and how you carry it.

One day you sit down and hear a "crack" sound...kinda like a jewel-case cracking........ doh!

Haha! You would think but I've had my first one for about 7 months now and have not had a problem. They are thin enough. Also, I only carry my wallet in my front pocket.

Nice post Verbage! This is a GREAT deal on a great product.

I have two of the 256MB Mini Cruzers that we use in the office and we love them. They are especially useful for transferring files to/from laptops that don't have a floppy drive.

Buy.com had the 256MB Mini Cruzers on sale recently for just under $50, but we eventually cancelled our order because they were still backordered after a month of waiting. I would definitely jump on the Dell deal.

For those of you who don't want to wait 3+ weeks, Costco B&M now has the Mini Cruzers in-stock for $49.99.

Those are awesome, the last pic has a nice plastic holder for them, it would be nice if I could get that and put it on my badge retractor....
