It actually matters. It is a factor in how fast your system will be. There is a 5% difference I have seen under heavily loaded Windows 2000 systems with 512MB ram of which almost all (480MB) was in use with programs cranking away.

Look at the memory roundup from april on anandtech. In some cases speed can be 13% higher between 2 and 3. Not sure how often that would happen tho.

Someone else had a messed up package as well...guess I wasnt the only one. Mine looked like it was run over.

Can we PLEASE change the subject, they are now $72, not $66. Mine was sent out via UPS on the 19th delivery on the 25th. .1 pounds! 1/10th a pound, $10 shipping for 2 :)

I HATE UPS. My package was sitting out in the rain, while my family was watching TV in the living room. The UPS guy didn't even ring the bell or knock on the door. I called the regional office and complained and said if I don't get better service, I will ask the merchant not to ship UPS anymore.

Why the jump back to 72?
Could it be that these aren't the "speedy" stuff anymore?

Let me ask you guys something....

Why didn't you all just go buy some PC100. You are only getting the results of a cheap PC100 module (130Mhz 222 at best). Jesus.... somebody slaps PC133 on the ram ..... and you all bought into it. Bragging about how your ram will do 130mhz 222. I have old crap PC100 ram that will do that.

C'mon guys..... you've been had. This is obviously crap stuff that has gotten WAY too much publicity here on this site.

I have an idea..... I'm holding up a trash can right now..... just toss your money this way....
its FASTER!

JMO.

I have seen this so many times. You want to save money....... sot you buy cheap crap and end up spending more than if you just went for a quality product.

But I don't see any crappy PC100 selling at that price though. May be someone can start a thread.

Info FWIW: Got ram in decent time. Shipped out 3 days after I ordered it and UPS delivered on time. However, the ram does look used. Marks on contacts... The ram does not say sycmax...just some random numbers with no brand. However it works fine....no problems at all for 3 days under full load (seti, and i do lots of graphic apps and web development). I'm runnining on a KT7 Raid /w duron 600@1000mhz. Memory is set asyncronously at 133 with another 128MB infieon pc133 and 128MB of siemen pc100. Memory setting is set at full speed with the exceptions that its at cas 3. Haven't tried cas 2 and don't plan on it due to slight instability before ever getting the ram. Probably due to the siemen pcc 100 i have running at 133. But as you can see it works great for me and i'm very happy with it.

P.S. Sorry don't have time to correct spellings and i probably won't be able to answer questions since i don't come here often, but i just wanted to give my experience since so many of you are wondering =)

Got my ram today, no brand name on it anywhere. Works perfectly though. My bios is just a generic award bios with no memory settings. How else can I reset my memory timing? Does tweakbios work with Win ME?

Oh please, come on man, if it works for you, you got a good deal. It's 31 cents/megabyte, that is a deal that's hard to beat, for any ram, sh*tty or good. I remember when this sh*t used to cost 2.00/megabyte, and that wasn't that long ago either.

Good point Cybordolphin ;)

But why not take advantage of this while we can.

I also have 'old' pc100 ram, that it pretty generic, that is running on my system (along with this syncmax ram) at pc130.

Everything is working nicely (so far) and I cannot complain.

But you do make an excellent argument Cybordolphin :)

title changed yet again ;)

I received mine around two days ago, and I've finally gotten to install it in my Athlon box. I have 512 mb. and everything seems to be working so far (knock on wood) I'm running memtest now.. I think I will let it go for at least 24 hours.. If it keeps on working, I'll be psyched.. I've never had a home machine with 512 mb to play with before..

:)

My DIMMS have a symbol that looks like a triangle with an oscilloscope trace (pulses) in it.. Does anyone know what brand that is?

Also, what kind of apps really test memory?

I want to find out ASAP if there are any problems with it.. (as I said, so far, so good) Disk corruption isnt fun..

Thank you!

That's a great question putergeek

Which programs test memory?

And where would I download "memtest"

Well I hate to say that the Norton test fails my ram, but SiSoft Sandra tests it out just fine. I just installed NT since it is real sensitive to ram and have run it for 4 straight days 24/7 and not a single hiccup. I don't think Norton is able to test this configuration. My little brother also ran Norton on his 2 sticks and it failed. SiSOft will allow you to do a looped Memory burn-in for as long as you allow it to run.... It passed with flying colors at 133/cas 2! 512 MB and NT runs Smoooooth

Hi ...can someone tell me if this memory works with a MSI K7T Pro2a motherboard? I'm building my first computer and have everything together except memory and want to order this but it seems there are very mixed reviews on this memory and i can't find out if it will even work with the mb i got. Anyone else with this mb have problems..or no problems? thanks, vroom

I can't believe some of you are complaining about this RAM. Whether you think it's really PC100, or you think it should run at CAS2/133MHz, or whatever. Gimme a break!

It's 256MB of PC133 for $72!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeez!

What do you want? Top quality RAM for $72? Good luck finding it! Quit your whining!

You get what you pay for.

Having said that, this is still a good deal.

Good luck to anyone that has purchased some. I just helped a friend of mine buy two sticks for his MSI K7T Pro2A and they are hanging tough. :)

vroom1018, check out in the first couple pages of the thread.

I have a stick of this stuff running on my dad's MSI K7T Pro2 also. Not a single hiccup at 133Mhz/CAS 3.

WELL said Ben ;)

I'm afraid I don't have Norton Systemworks Pro southbound but I may try running the Sandra tests on it.

And I've had this RAM on a Windows 2000 machine since day one, and it's been working perfectly :)
(someone was saying that NT is sensitive to RAM)

All in all, and to reiterate was Ben said, I cannot complain about this hot deal one bit (no pun intended!!!).

cheers :)

Yes the RAM was a great deal but a roll of the dice on whether it really works or not ;) At least upgradeplanet was cool about the return. Guy on the phone was real nice. Got my memory from crucial.com. Yes I paid $144 for 1 stick of 256mb cas2 but its real PC133 and it shipped in a box cushinoned by foam padding. Didn't realize before this that PC100/133 are real specs...not just speeds as I thought. The generic sticks most likely aren't PC133...they just run at 133.
