i'm trying to install a 250 gb ide hd i just got today on a computer that's already using a 160 gb. i didn't set it up myself originally, but it reads the 160 perfectly fine. the new drive is being detected as 137 only. can you guys help me out?

Strange.

Is there any chance that the 160gb came with a PCI card to support it, and you accidentally connected to your motherboard's IDE connectors out of habit?

no there's no pci. the installation guide says to plug it in the ATA stuff, and use the CD program it provided. it's a western digital..

omg, we looked at the label and realized they put a 120 GB hard drive in the 250 box i bought.... wth.. no wonder the device name was suspicious

Yeah, good luck returning that....

Even if it was a 250gb HD Windows would of only recognized the First 160gb. You would of have to used Partition Magic or Big Drive (Maxtor) to get the rest of the space back.
