2500k OC Frustration

Are you messing with your BCLK settings at all? When I first started OC'ing my 2500K I bumped up the BCLK to 103 (I think) and it became unstable as hell. I have it back down to 100.3 and it's uber stable.

FWIW, I stopped my OC efforts at 41x, anything over that was either unstable or pushed the temps into the high 80's or low 90's. I don't think my GB board is a big overclocker, or I have a hot chip (or both.)

There are tons of guides. You could even read guides based on the old P67 chipset and find useful information. Here's one I found the other day -- for an ASRock board. All you need to do is identify all the relevant BIOS options for the P8Z68.

I have a P8Z68-V Pro [pre-"Gen-3"].

A year ago, communing with some forum-members per Z68 Sandy Bridge over-clocking, I came away with an impression reinforced by posts at other sites and forums: The Gigabyte board equivalents seem somehow short of other makes.

Gigabyte otherwise makes "good mobos" and I have a few. Maybe they're just having a "bad patch."

And not knowing anything about the Giga-Z68's firsthand, I can only say my -v Pro board is stable for i7-2600K at 4.6 with LLC "High" (50%), highest-load (Prime95) (lowest) VCORE is 1.312V and idle (@ 4.6) is 1.34+ to 1.35V. The highest VID reached is 1.375V.
