Pick and choose your venue and tell how the pirates or the seals might win or lose. All of them carry their own gear and no airstrikes allowed.

The Somalian pirates have RPGs, so they win. And I don't think there are 2500 of them in the world.

They don't have enough money to fund weapons for 2500 in somalia.

If someone could wipe concern for life from the pirates, they would win; but at a cost of almost all of them being dead. Since they won't be under this hive like mind control going to be a difficult task for them to accomplish.

2500 Somolian pirates with AK47s? No way the SEALs could defend themselves.

Hey, I know the SEALs are tough. I'm not doubting that. But 25 of them vs 2500 crazy dudes with AK47s? It's not even close.

That's a lot of ammunition the Seals would have to carry on them, you would have to factor in how much is likely to get wasted by the Seals during an onslaught of 2500 AK's firing at them as well.

Pirates would destroy them. Special forces are special, they are not gods. Many, many, many have been killed by poorly trained thugs who outnumber them. Realistically 25 well equipped seals would be a pretty decent match for 250 pirates, not 2500.

I'm assuming you are referring to a situation where the SEALs are tasked with protecting a ship, and the pirates en masse try to take it over? If you had say 12 positions with 2 SEALs each, one with a Minigun and the other a Barrett .50 cal to disable engines, along with their usual M-4's, sidearms, and perhaps some TOW's I like their chances.

The TOW's alone could decimate entire boats before they could get any shots off with their AK's.

If overran, they would have rally positions to fall back to with additional equipment.

Not a realistic situation unless they had specific intel that a certain ship was going to be hit, and had time to mount the mini's and everything.

Hell, at least make it 25 SEAL's and 5 Gurkhas? I think the key would be the stand off range of the SEAL's TOW's, and their rules of engagement. I mean if they have orders to start taking out pirate skiffs as soon as they are in range of a TOW, they could easily cut their numbers in half and perhaps scare the rest off?

And if air support was available, say a couple AH-64 Apaches, game over.

How about 2500 Somali pirates vs 2500 pirates of the Caribbean? Melee weapons only to make things interesting.

If the pirates are on little boats that hold like 5 to 10 people, and they are completely without coordination, the Seals may stand a chance if they are in a defensible position...

That said, at a ratio of 100 to 1, the odds are very strongly in favor of the somalians as the navy seals will run out of bullets at some point very early in the fight...

Seals trick the pirates into chasing them over a long bridge made of rope and wood planks. Once the pirates are on the bridge, the seals shoot the bridge ropes and the pirates fall to their death = seals win.

If on sea they may be able to keep them at bay if they have enough ammunition. On land it would be nearly impossible to stop the human wave effect of 2500 coming at them.

So many variables. Are the pirates completely surrounding the SEALs, with the SEALs having very little or no cover? I'll take the pirates. In another scenario, with plenty of cover and not completely surrounded, the SEALs could pull it off IMO.

The Battle of Omdurman is another example of a lopsided victory in favor of a small force, but it'd be hard to compare it to this scenario.

Do the pirates have patches over both eyes, and both legs are pegs?

This really depends on location and weapons.

If this was close quarters combat, the Seals don't stand a chance.

Likewise, take this scenario:

Seals have a fortified position on high ground with thick walls and barricades.
They have sniper rifles, M60's, grenades, and tons of ammo.
All the Somalis are in an open beach with little cover. All they have are poorly serviced AK-47's, handguns, and knives.

That would be a Somali slaughter. At best, the Somalis might get off a few lucky kills while they are spraying the fort with ammo.
