2500+ hsf unit?

Depends on which heatsink you get from AMD... the early ones they put on the XP2500's were extremely good. Since XP3200's work just fine with their retail heatsink, as long as you don't increase the voltage to get to 2.2 Ghz, it should be just fine.

Now do I use a stock hsf? Nah,.. I got 9 C. cooler by using an Aero 7+, and that big @!# fan looks impressive. That is why cases have see through sides isn't it ;-)

if i remember my numbers right, a 10C drop in temps will double the life expectancy of a cpu. although i will most probably upgrade way before they die, i still like to keep mine cool, as in never going in the 50's.
 
i recently fixed the fan on the retail heatsink.

the fan is quite nice, quiet and pushes alot of air. it *feels* like it pushes more air than the 80mm panaflo i have.

I have a 2500+ Barton OC'ed to 3200+ on an Asus A7N8X-DX with stock HSF. At idle it's about 42C, under load it gets as high as 51 or 52C. Recently I had a spontaneous reboot likely due to heat (I was editing video at the time) anyway my question is, I am going to get a fan adapter and mount a reasonably quiet 80MM fan on the stock HS and see if that can
get my temps sub 40C. Does anybody know how many CFM the stock fan pushes so I can get a good boost in CFM? Does this sound like a good idea or am I trying to polish a turd?

that's what i was wonder. how much the stock fan pushes. cause i have a 80mm panaflo and it does like 24CFM

you can prolly score a slk800 / 900 and 80mm fan for less than 30 bucks total. drop those temps nice.

I don't think it'll help that much. It's the size of the HSF itself as size does matter. And the fact that most of the unit is aluminum and not copper means it can't cool as well.
