2500 barton

i am a complete oc newb.

think i could save some $$$ and overclock a 2500 barton to 2800 speeds (2.08)?

a7v333 mobo
pc2700
slk800a

is it possible to run the memory stock and just up the proc? is that the best way to oc?

my other alternatives are:
2800 barton $177 2.08GHz
2700 t-bred $133 2.17GHz
2600 t-bred $103 2.08 GHz

Hmm, you'd need to unlock the chip (I don't believe the Bartons are unlocked on KT333) and then since you don't want to overclock your RAM, just up the multiplier from 11 to 12.5. Then your 2500+ would effectively be a 2800. I wouldn't recommend changing the FSB due to the lack of PCI/AGP bus locks on the board.

BTW, my barton goes WAY over XP3200 speeds, over 2.3 ghz and runs totally stable, its an AWESOME chip.

yeah, but then again there are a lot that dont do 3000+, it is always a YMMV w/ OCing

only nforce2 boards unlock the chip, unless you want to get an unlocking kit and try iy yourself (which i dont recommend)

you sir are half way wrong most if not all KT400 based mobos like abits AT7-MAX2,KD7,KD7-RAID etc allow multiplier manipulation.
