2500+ Barton won't OC higher than 3000+ :(

It's currently running stable at 2100mhz (10.5X200) at 1.775v.

It won't run at 2200mhz (11X200), even if I bump the voltage up to 1.85v.

I'm running an Asus A7N8X Deluxe with the latest "Uber" bios installed. I have the chipset voltage set to 1.7, and the ram is set to CAS 2.5, 3,3,8. The ram voltage is set to 2.8.

Any ideas on how to get this thing to run at 3200+ speeds?

What's a Prometia? The stepping of the chip is AQXEA 0331 TPAW if that's what you're asking.

It's running at 47C under full load using Prime95.

<EDIT: Don't reply to threads unless you have something constructive to say. You obvioulsly know nothing about Barton overclocking if you're suggesting liquid cooling at 1.775v.>

I have the same stepping in my 8RGA+ and I am running 2.3 GHz. Don't be too sure it isn't motherboard/chipset/multiplier problem.

Just bought a barton 2500+ with an asus atn8x-x 400 board. Just put it all together and decided to see what this bad boy can do. Running with pc 3500 mem I'm currently at 230x11 (I can't change the clock multiplier cause it's locked) @ 1.75v. Running cool and smoth right now. I had to relax the timing on my memory to 6-3-3-2.5 to get it this high though. If I try anything more agressive it won't boot. Any mhz higher on the fsb and I won't boot to windows. anyhow, I just ordered everything from newegg last thursday and forgot to check the core before putting it in so I dunno what stepping I have. All I have to say though is WOW!

i am using a a7n8x deluxe with 1.65v 2500+ barton @ 3200+ with aeroflow heatsink and it never goes over 50C with spectek pc2700 11x200

How can I find out what my bottleneck is? I can boot in to windows at 11X200 (2200mhz) at 1.75v, but prime95 isn't stable. Is there some kind of special bios that I should be using? Could it be one of my devices causing the problem? At 200mhz FSB everything is running within spec, so I can't really see how it could be anything but the CPU itself.

I tried the 1.04 bios but it didn't make any difference. Since my RAM is Hynix, I think I should stick with the 1.07 bios since it apparently is more stable w/ Hynix memory.

Any other suggestions?

lower your multiplier to make sure its not ram holding you back. get nicer cooling, up the voltage even more.

lookup prometeria at tomshardware.com

prometia is a very cool (litterally) type of cooling that can take about 600 - 2000 bucks from your pocket. Expect about 1GHz overclock on cpus and -35 or less C temps. I havent seen one on a video card, would like to see that :)

I have the samne problem , can get to Ive just been running at 10 x 215 @ 2150 MHz 3000+ .... runs a lot faster than the 12 x 185 2220 MHz 3200+ ;)

230 x 11 @ 2530 hhmmm .. 2.5 Ghz thats some overclock especially with RAM timings as tight as they are 6 - 3 - 3 - 2.5 and a vCore 1.75v.

Have any WCPUID pics of that ?

rnp614 : what kind of DFI board are you on ? as you can see in my sig im on a DFI as we'll ... i wonder if most DFI boards limit to this ?

I think i'll try my 8RDA+ with the Barton 2500+ this weekend :D

I lowered the multiplier to 9 and left the FSB at 200mhz, and it still was unstable (however I left the voltage at default).

Right now it's running at 10.5X200 @ 1.85v and it seems stable, but I don't like using such a high core voltage. I'm very disappointed that this chip can't run at 3200+ speeds. I have excellent cooling (SLK-800 w/ 92mm Delta)...it doesn't make any sense.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

I have the DFI Lanparty NFII and I have had it all the way up to 230 x 10 on air cooling with a vcore of 1.8 don't blame anything on that board.

OK, this makes no sense. The chip will run 100% stable at 2000mhz (10X200) at default voltage (1.65v). No matter how high I set the voltage, it will not run any faster than this. Very strange. It even boots into windows at 2100mhz at 1.65v, and it posts at 2200mhz at 1.65v. I'm really wondering what's holding this chip back.

Don't worry about Prime95. Thats old hoo ha. Use your PC and if it is stable for what you use it for then screw prime 95

Call me stupid but I like to have my system 100% stable. I do alot of AutoCAD and 3D Max work and I don't want to take any chances with errors popping up in my drawings.

I just tried upping the memory voltage, and it's been stable running Prime95 for about an hour at 2100mhz, 1.75v. It seems as though 2200mhz is not in the cards for this CPU.

If I decide to go into debt and get an Athlon-64 processor I'll be selling my XP2500 that does 2.3 Ghz :D
