2500+ Barton (333fsb) showing up as 1466ghz processor?

Hey,
I recently ordered a refurbished 2500+ Barton from Newegg. The mobo I wanted to put this in only has a 266 mhz FSB. But, I figure no problem, they're suppose to be backwards compatible, it'll still run, and I can keep the chip for when I do upgrade mobos. So put the chip in and manage to get it to boot. But on the boot screen. It shows up as an Athlon XP 1466 Ghz. Um... That doesn't seem right. Even though I'm running a 266mhz FSB, shouldn't it be a TAD bit higher than that? Am I missing something, or is this a RMA? Thanks...

Nope, that's right for a 266MHz bus (11x133=1463). If you can, try upping the multiplier on it, but it's probably locked.

You need your FSB to be at 333 to get to the proc's rated speed. 11 (stock multi) x 166 = 1.83 the stock speed.

ah... the link I posted above seems to be only for 266fsb cpus. Doh! ok, thanks guys. maybe I'll look into unlocking

edit: Yeah, I think I'll try the wire/pin mod detailed at www.ocinside.de. My mobo is dumb and doesn't allow for multiplier changes in the bios :(

PR ratings change depending on the chip. 1833 is 2500+ on a barton, but on other CPUs 2500+ may require more mhz to reach the same rating.

wire trick works good. i would set it to x15 for at least 2000 real mhz, easily realistic.
