2500 Barton 333 FSB w/IWILL XP333-R motherboard

I am looking at purchasing a new processor, specifically the 2500 XP Barton. However, I noticed it has a FSB of 333 MHz, and my motherboard (IWILL XP333-R) has a bus speed of up to 233 MHz.

Will this processor still work with my motherboard? And if so, what exact difference will there be in performance. Obviously it wouldn't be able to transfer at 333 MHz, but would my clockspeed be affected, or just the bus speed?

Sorry, but your m/b is stone age. While the barton might work in it, albeit at a very reduced fsb and multiplier, it's best to invest in a new mobo at the same time.

Edit: After looking around the Epox 8RDA+ seems like a steal. Only $85 at NewEgg.

On the XP333 you can set the PCI dividers to 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 and 1/6 (The AGP dividers are always twice the PCI dividers, so there is no option for them). At that same 170 MHz FSB above, if you set the PCI divider to 1/5 (and thus the AGP divider to 2/5), your PCI speed is then 34 MHz and your AGP speed is 68 MHz, much closer to their default speeds and will cause no problems with your PCI or AGP cards. But, you were still able to push your memory and processor bus speeds up dramatically! Now that is why divider options in the bios can be very useful.

After that long-winded explanation, what was the XP333-R able to perform at in terms of overclocking? Well, I was able get the Athlon XP 1900+ processor and OCZ Tech memory to run at a 170 MHz FSB. Setting the dividers to 1/5 and 2/5, the AGP and PCI cards had no problems what so ever. Do note that at 166 MHz FSB, with a 1/5 divider, you are at the DDR333 specifications that Iwill claims the XP333 meets. While this is not an official DDR333 solution because the processor itself is still overclocked, you are getting the performance increase all the same.

you should check Iwill's site, they may have a new bios that oficially supports 333fsb Bartons now, if not it should just require at most manually setting the multiplier and FSB (maybe voltage too) to make it run in spec even though it won't ID it correctly.

maybe i'm missing something, but my xp333 goes to mult of 15, and is running with crucial 133/c2 at 167/c2 right now with a mp1200@8x@1420@1.85v... why wouldn't it run the 2500+barton? maybe i can't go much higher fsb, but i could sure push the mult up... i've done that on a bunch of boxes and get great performance without spending 2-3x as much upgrading memory as i do on cpu's...

and it seems that my temps don't go up as high when i up the mult instead of the fsb...

i think i'm going to order one and if it don't work in the xp333 then see what i can do with my l7s7a2...

Sorry, but a year ago IS the stone age in computer terms. But the 8RDA+ is a killer deal for $85, it now comes with the 400fsb chipset! As soon as I can afford it, I'll be picking up one of 'em too.
