250 gig Hard Drive Space

I know this is a nub question but I just bought 250 gig hard drive and after formatting it I only have 232 gigs on it. That seem like lower than usual but I just wanted to see if that is accurate. My old 80 gigs left me with 74.5 so I didnt think a 250 gig drive would short me 18 gigs.

The bigger they are,the more you lose.

You lost 5.5 with 80 so now you have over 3 times as much storage so do the math...it'll work out

They did display explanation on the boxs when you buy it like,
1k = 1000 bytes
1meg = 1,000,000 bytes
1gb = 1,000,000,000 bytes
for reference

This has been debated for over 5 years or maybe 7+
