An excellent deal: fix up that old PC, install a dual-boot OS, add storage to a home server or just keep one around for sneakernet or short-term non-critical backup.

Shipping is $7.28, but I think it adjust favorably if you get multiple drives and/or other options without free shipping.

$25 - Recertified WD Caviar Green WD6400AAVS 640GB Internal Hard Drive

P.S. Ooooh, so scary. It's used, recert, refurb, etc. Let's hear the sob stories.

not bad. wish the shipping was less, but yeah if you buy a couple it wouldnt be bad. keep in mind its 5400rpm tho.

Will do. I've had 2 hard drives die on me during normal use, and both were refurbs.

If you need a cheap drive for storage it might be okay. For something that is going to be constantly accessed I'd be weary. HDDs are one of the few things where I won't trust refurb for long.

Eh I've had refurb's last longer than retail drives. Actually I've never had a refub drive die on me. My old 74GB Raptor started having issues after a year. WD shipped me a refurb and it been running just fine since 2003 or so. Same with a 200GB Seagate that I bought strait from Newegg as a refurb.
Either way I agree unless you are buying 3-4 for a raid array the shipping hurts.
