I happened to buy the same drive from Dell. I put it in a closet for 3 or 4 months, until late last November when I put together my comp. On Christmas Eve, it failed via the "WD click of death", after about a month's use. I had never had a HDD failure on 5 computers, for 7 years, so I was lazy about backup, and I lost most of my stuff. At the time I had recieved it from Dell, I checked the warranty on WD's page. No warranty. When it failed I checked again, and there was one. The "guy at WD" has been told that the serial number CRAOX75(I know thats not the serial number, but I seem to remember something along those lines) is for Dell OEM drives, and doesn't have a warranty, which is true according to their policies. You need to check their webpage without going through a person, and see if the ID assigned to your drive is under warranty. It might just be. As always with sketchy warranty policies, YMMV.Originally posted by: Lark888
Dell branded hard drives are not warranted by Western Digital. It's a Dell warranty. I had a problem with a Dell branded 120 WD SE about 40 days after purchase and it was a PAIN getting Dell to do ANYTHING about it. They sent me to WD first & guy at WD agreed that drive was bad but it was OEM warranty & I had to go back to supplier.

Since I don't own a Dell computer, Dell didn't want to do anything. Took quite a bit of talking to get them to replace this 40 day old drive. YMMV
BTW-This is a hot deal for those of you with Dells or know how to work the warranty game. There were some people last time that actually received a WD backed drive (based on serial number) although it was the exception.

Yes, the exact same thing happened to me too. I don't have Dell system, but got some parts some them, and its HD too. When i called them up and try to rma the drive, they simply ddn't know what to do if i don't have that service number or something like that come along with the system. It finally took me 4-5 phone calls and numerous of forwards to get it rma. The good thing is they took care of the shippings, and gave me a 80 gig instead of a 60 gig i returned.

Anybody get confirmation emails yet? I ordered on the 28th, got the acknowledgement email right away saying I would receive a confirmation email within 48 hours. Still nothing. Even tried giving Dell a call, but their phone system SUXS!
Would very much like to know where my hard drives are....wait RAID....NOW!

That is strange that you did not get the confirmation. I ordered on Friday, received my confirmation on Sunday (I think), and my drive has shipped.

Finally got my order straightened out. It's a little disappointing Dell has no clue what's going on sometimes...after all, I've ordered from them before. 🙁
Apparently, some orders were held up due to the amount of stuff ordered and because of the nature of the promotion. It looks like because some people (like me) stacked the 15% SB coupon on top of their automatic discount, they, humans and computers, got confused because it looked like a stackable 2 coupons and were placed on hold for review. Little did they know it was THEIR freakin' promotion.
The other thing was that they wanted to verify the 'business' buying the stuff and making sure that it would not be exported out of the country. I already told them it would not be but then they specifically asked if I was going to Ebay them or not. I personally don't think that's any of their business as long as I stick to what I said and did not sell them to anybody outside of the country.
Man...all this just to buy a couple of hard drives and 2 sticks of memory. Nice to know our freedoms are being guarded by the military, the federal govt, and DELL. :disgust:
