Wow, this thing is amazingly cool. Much cooler in the video than my ARM "CVS Netbook", which kind of left me with a bad impression of ARM platforms. It was cheap, but it was slow, and very very limited compared to a real IBM-Compatible PC.

At least this thing seems to be able to play 1080P video. My CVS Netbook, had a "Special" (as in, Special Olympics) YouTube app, and it played the videos at something like 160x120 resolution. Videos with long titles, that the video-player app would scroll back and forth, would cause the actual video to drop frames.

If I could set my mom up with one of these as a working PC, allowing her to get on the internet, and watch online videos, and DVD discs, then it would be perfect.

Your CVS netbook would have been just fine if you cared to do some research and installed android on it. but you didn't bother doing that, did you?

I got my Raspberry Pi up and running Debian Linux. I had to swap keyboards until I found one it liked. Total cost was just under $100 using an old monitor with a DVI connector.

i wholeheartedly agree. you can even take the eepc apart and single out the motherboard to give you have 'hacker l33t' feeling

Raspberry PI is best used as a Linux based embedded system processor. Not as a graphics engine PC-alike.

fun to fool with. Linux with with Ethernet plug and play. Graphics HDMI good enough for simple web pages with photos/images.
If you want a media player, go get an E450 mini-ITX.

It brings Linux usage for Python and the like scripting of I/O through the GPIO pins, and whatever web server things one might want to do in an embedded systems context.
