I posted this deal and I wasn't going to buy any of these drives, but then I remembered a couple of family members are using old CD drives that won't read many CD-R disks.

Good deal.

These are excellent. I purchased a 24X Toshiba IDE over 3 years ago and still use it with one of my Linux boxes. Reads cheapo CDs flawlessly. Never had a problem with it. Better than my Kenwood 52X reading burned CDs.

Thanks.

I used to have the toshiba 32x 6202B but then it died after a few years. Let me warn you that this thing has fairly poor digital audio extraction (DAE). It will rip at up to 16x but it is flawed. The best it can do perfectly is 3.8x which sux since I have a 4x writer. I base this fact on using a "fc /b" file compare command on sequential rips. At high speeds, there are errors galore in addition to pops and hiccups. Other than the slow dae, it's a good drive.

It's a great deal and I'm gonna get one, but don't expect to copy audio at anything more than 2x. Hope this helps.

Strange: The Toshiba 32X SCSI refurb is listed at Onvia as a "XM6201F". In the product archives at www.toshiba.com, they only list a SCSI "XM-6201B". Anyone know what the difference is between the "F" model and the "B" model - could be very important...

The 6202B read CD-RW's just fine I have a 2 year old one in my system...

As for DAE... I can pull at 8x just fine... The drive only shows as rated as 7x in most programs I have used....
