24V Fans? "Big suckers"

I've been looking to put some big 5in or 6in fans in the top and bottom of my case. The only fans this big that I can find use 24V or sometimes higher. Is there any way to encorporate these 24V fans. Any mods or different kind of power supply I can buy? These fans are mostly metal (fins and base) so I guessing that I couldn't run them off of 12V. Any help or direction would be appreciated.
Thx

what do you need a 24 volt fan for?

wouldent a couble 12v 120mm Deltas do the trick?

and i think they make a bogger one also that does something like 300 CFM or some crazy sh!t like that

yeah look harder for a 12v fan because a 24v is out of the question for a typical computer case.

Well, I really wanted to run a big fan at low rpm so it would push a lot air and remain quiet. I am planning to do just about as much overclocking as possible with just air. I know water is a lot better, but I dont have the resources to make water blocks or the money to buy them. Well, if there isn't a something like a 24V adapter or something I guess I could try running the fans at 12V. Or do you think that the fans wouldn't be able to start with such a low voltage.

most likely wouldent even start.

just get a few 120mm Panaflows they run quiet and should do the trick just fine.

if you wanna do extream OCing the most inmortant thing is teh Heat Sink. wigh a good one of them average case cooling will do

Thx for the info on the Gainward, unfortantley I have another one running in my families computer. So far no trouble, though I will be crossing my fingers.

Now I got to go looking for some 120mm fans.
Thx for the help

I second the 120mm panaflow.

I had one on my case directly above the CPU, with the fan turned off the CPU temp was about 129, with it turned on the CPU temp was 120, with the fan turned on and the CPU fan UNPLUGGED the temp was about 127. That sucker really moved some air. Wasn't noisy either. (I just wish I hadn't broken one of the ears off in a HD cooling experiment)

One undervolted 120mm is plenty.
But if "you just gotta" have something bigger, look for Papst series 6200 or series 6400.
They each have one 192mm at 12v.
I imagine that should work but I don't know why you need that much.

Thanks a bunch for that. I've been having problems getting my rig to overclock as high as I'd like and I think that might be the problem.

As for the fans, I would stick with some 12v 120mm fans!

If you want insane cooling, why not just wire up a nice quiet 115-volt 900cfm centrifugal blower? Oh wait, 86dB. ;)

Really, I think the law of decreasing returns sets in really fast after the Panaflo L1A level if your case is built to actually allow some airflow, like the Antecs and antec-alikes are (for example). I mean, with a set of four 80mm Panaflo L1A's in that case, the air inside is being completely replaced about once every ten seconds or less. Double the airflow and maybe you'll get another 30MHz out of your CPU? Don't you have better things to do with your time than waste several hours trying to get another 30MHz...? ;)

NO ive spent hours tryin to get 10MHz more out of mine. more is alyays better. no matter how little more it is

thats the overclockers motto

Hehe, but you are also shooting for acceptable volume levels, which makes it extra-hard. ;) I have owned a couple of the 120mm Panaflo L1A's, and they do move a good amount of air (plus they ran fine at 7 volts for me too), so I can endorse them if you want to try something that's readily available.

Thanks for all you help. It looks as though if you want "extreme" liquid is the only way to go. I think I might look into the 190mm fans though.

If you want to do something that EXTREME and don't mind spending the cash, water cooling is for YOU!
But why stop there... why not nitrogen cooling!

Seriously, there is an opportinity cost to everything in life.
You can spend a fortune on your rig today, but it will be junk in two years.

Listen to mechBgon.... he has good advice.
Go for the Panaflos.
Spend the $200 you saved on something important..

I've installed two of these in two cases I own. 6.75" diameter and they barely fit in the front. They run fine on 12v from the power supply, although at lower speed. Probably about 80-100 CFM (unobstructed) at 12v. Quieter than an equivalent CFM 120mm. I've also got a few that run at 12v. The airflow is incredible (the 300 CFM figure seems accurate), but they are LOUD and draw about 3 amps (36 watts). Definitely go with the 24v units. I think one should be enough. I think MPJA sells these. There's no issue with them being metal - metal is used becase of the stresses on them using full power. The metal impeller and housing are in no way electrically connected to the power.
