24p problem. Please help, getting desperate!

So I built a new HTPC based on AMD 5350 and an Asrock mobo with DC in.

Everything worked out of the box and I have to say the system is quite snappy and the fan is quiet enough for me not to hear it from where I am watching.

The problem is that while 24p is silky smooth (so are all other frequencies btw), there seems to be some sort of frame interpolation going on. And I can't live with that. It literally makes me sick.

Is there any way to disable this function? I have disabled everything in the Catayst control panel, but to no avail.

Any help in this issue would me much appreciated. Thank you.

ps. Wasn't sure if I should post this under GFX or HTPC, but I think this issue might be the same for discrete radeon GFX as well, so I posted here.

pss. Does anyone know if Haswell and Bay trail gfx have this same issue? If it can't be fixed on AMD I might have to fork out the money for an Intel system, but I have limited resources, so I'd really like to know if it's going to work before I spend the money.

There shouldn't be any GPU settings that can do this, so check your TV's settings instead.

Hey there and thank you for your reply. I haven't changed the settings that I used on the TV for my old HTPC. I just checked them and "intelligent fram creation" is off. But there is definitely something funny being done by this new AMD APU.

Yes it's super duper silky smooth, but the way ppl move around is completely unnatural. I have set XBMC to sync the frequency with the tv set.

I see through some Googling that AMD might have something called Fluid Motion that works only in PowerDVD, but I can't find much information on it, or how to disable it.

Also, this might seem like a stupid question, but I assume you aren't using SVP or anything of the sort within MPC-HC? It's a third party plugin, but if you installed an all inclusive build of MPC-HC with MADVR already setup for you, it's possible.

Lastly, if your TV has a Game Mode, you might want to turn it on for the time being. It should disable all of the TV"s processing, just to make sure it's not the cause.

I only use XBMC. No fancy plugins or anything. But yes, what I am experiencing does sound like "fluid motion". Completely unwatchable for me.

Is there any way for you to connect another monitor to the computer?

Ideally you could connect them both at the same time, and see whether the issue is confined to your TV, thereby ruling out a setting on the computer, and isolating the TV as the problem.

Or, maybe connect a laptop or other device to the TV (same input being used now) and confirm that the problem persists, thereby confirming that the TV is the problem.

At least isolate where the problem is coming from, definitively, before constraining any assumptions to one device or the other. Rule out as many possibilities as you can, that will help narrow it down.

Hey there and thanks for your reply. I have a different monitor that I have tested with other than the plasma tv that I am trying to use it with currently.. Unfortunately, that monitor (24" dell something) doesn't sync at low refreshrates. I will try with some 30 fps material though asap.

I once had my monitor at 24P and it gave me a headache. I switched it back to 60hz.

Is it because your TV doesn't support 72hz so your TV at 60hz creates missing frames with motion blur?

Can you set your refresh rate in CCC to 24hz. Only for blu-ray playback. And also your TV set to game mode. Also check with "recall" or other button what actual refresh rate your TV is working at.

Major D'OH!

I had connected the new HTPC to the wrong HDMI input on the tv, and since on the TV I use, nearly all settings are local, don't apply to all inputs, "24p fluid motion" was enabled on the tv.

I apologize to and thank everyone who tried to help.
