I am wearing glasses since I was 7 and around the age of 32 I tried, tried really hard to switch to contacts but I had similar luck. I was difficult in the beginning but eventually I was able to put in and take out easily but they never felt totally comfortable... It was during the holidays season and after the afternoon naps they felt weird.. I have Astigmatism and the vision was also weird, rectangles and squares were irregular shape when they were within few feet...

What you're experiencing is normal. It takes about two weeks to learn how to put them in properly. Also, if you're getting stinging you probably got lint on the lenses.

Keep at it. You'll eventually get it. The biggest obstacle is learning that it's OK to touch your eye.

Sorry man, that sucks. I have gotten serranos in my eyes and that is a bad enough visual image... OUCH ...

I am glad I always wear gloves when dealing with Habaneros or any superhots ...

I like glasses. Kind of a hassle, but they work every time, and there's little chance of damaging your eyes. In fact, it helps protect them, since you have a cover on all the time, instead of needing safety glasses, but not using them.

just takes some time for you to get used to it.

my friend rides with glasses also he also has contacts that he can wear. that would be my preference because i could see the glasses fogging up. Also if you ride around with a clear shield you could pop on some sunglasses if it's too bright out.

Takes a little getting used to at first.

Been wearing em about 40 years myself, putting new ones in is pretty much second nature at this point, if you miss rinse them off again to make sure they are clean or they will sting awhile, if soft lenses that absorb things like most these days.

Rinse your hands and (closed) eyes before you touch the contacts. Don't dry- you'll pick up lint. Also, you might need a different kind of lenses- I can't wear high moisture lenses. They work for most people but they won't stay in place for me. And lenses can get turned inside out- they will feel weird (sometimes painful) and won't sit right. Might have happened to you.

I've been wearing contacts for many years. My procedure- put a couple of drops of solution in the lens while it's on your fingertip (if you use stuff that can go directly in your eye- not all can, so make sure you know). Slip your finger underneath your top eyelashes and pull the lid up. Look toward your nose, put the lens in, pull the eyelashes so the lid doesn't slide the lens downward, pull lid closed, move eye around a bit, have a hand under your eye in case the lens falls, open eye and blink carefully a few times.

Sounds like a ridiculous amount of work.

Here's what I do:

1 - Put glasses on.

I tried contacts but they were just a colossal pain in the ass to deal with. Pretty much for the same reasons the OP mentioned. Hard to get in and out and it always felt like something was stuck in my eye. Probably because I was accidentally putting them in inside out.

In the end, it was way more convenient to stick to glasses. I don't recommend contacts.

I have the month long ones I guess.

I put em once a month and pretty much forget about it.

I sleep in them.

I wore glasses for 10 years, then contacts on and off for a year or two. Then got Lasik 4 years ago. Hassle free ever since.

I got rid of contacts when I started working outside. Having to deal with them using filthy sweaty hands isn't pleasant. Also, they just got to be more hassle than they were worth. Glasses are mildly irritating, but no big deal.

Have you considered rigid gas permeable lenses (aka nighttime contacts)? Might be uncomfortable getting them in the first few days, but once you fall asleep they shouldn't bother you.

I've been wearing them for 15 years. I don't have to worry about discomfort during the day due to my allergies or whatever I'm doing.

I can't bring myself to do Lasik. I just can't take the risk, however remote, that it could do any sort of damage that would hurt my photography ability.

I can't imagine sleeping in contacts.. the days I'd forget to take them out, my eyes felt like crap afterwards. I went from daily to every two weeks to monthly types but would always take them out every night.

The results are too mixed. Most people love it, but there's a substantial minority of "meh", and a handful of horror stories. I'm not willing to risk the only eyes I have for trivial convenience.
