2407WFP-HC Ghosting Update

I purchased this monitor from Dell at the end of August, and sent it back two times in hopes of getting a monitor without the inverted ghosting issue, but had no luck. The original, and both replacements all shared the same problem. Also, the return process was pretty much a nightmare for me. I took a month and a half to get my card credited, after returning all three monitors. If you're going do a return with dell, make sure you use UPS and not DHL, as they don't record the tracking from DHL.

I ended up purchasing a x2 24'' Soyo LCDs for about the same price as the Dell. Cheaper monitors, but they look nearly as good, and I get double the resolution.

I think there's only A01 in the HC's, so you likely have a non-HC.

In regards to Dell's newest response, Dell pretty much has said there won't be a new revision of this monitor to correct this issue and is issuing refunds instead. Guess that eliminates it as a choice for me (and I have to say I'm surprised Dell isn't fixing it).

2407WFP-HC Ghosting Refund/CRA (credit return authorization)

What does the Dell legal response posted on this thread mean to you?
http://www.dellcommunity.com/s...nitor&message.id=83191

(1) There will not be another 2407WFP-HC revision to address the ghosting nor will we fix the current one.

(2) You may keep the monitor OR initiate a refund by 11-8-2007.

(3) If you wish to return the monitor for a refund before 11-8-2007, please send an email to the following address:
2407WFP-HCMonitor@dell.com

(4) The subject line of that email should read, 2407WFP-HC Ghosting Refund/CRA (credit return authorization)

(5) In the email, provide the following information:
Name
Address
Phone number
Order number and/or Service tag number
Monitor 20 digit PPID number
Reason: I need a Refund/CRA (credit return authorization) due to the 2407WFP-HC Ghosting issue

BroadbandGamer,

That is the original. The HC version only has A00.

So am I in the clear as far as this problem goes?

I believe the original non-HC is free of the ghosting problems. The original has been out a lot longer.

I bought a system with the 24". I gave the system to someone in need but kept the LCD. How would the Refund go about this? Does the whole system need to go back or do you refund the price of the monitor?

1) Would I be correct in assuming that all 2407WFP-HC monitors have this ghosting problem, or is it a luck of the draw?

2) The Dell rep appears to be saying that this problem will never be fixed and there will never be another revision to this monitor, is this correct?

Guess I'm going to get the Soyo one, then in a year when more LED backlit monitors like the dell come out get one of those. The Samsung 245T was suppose to be LED but isn't 🙁 That appears to be the best alternative to the Dell.

Sounds like a strange way to approach the problem, no?
What's up with Dell's monitor quality lately? Previous gen 2005/2405 models had issues, the 2007WFP had several issues/revisions and was neutered from a nice S-IPS panel to yucky MVA/PVA, and now this issue with the 2407. 🙁
I just hope they stop cutting corners by assembly cheap low quality parts for their monitors, so they don't have to deal with these issues in the future.

So buying a dell 2407 right now is probably not a good idea i would gather. How are the soyo's in comparison?

The only time I noticed the type of ghosting that is mentioned in this post is when I did their little test with that background.

I never notice it playing games or doing anything else. I am very happy with my 2407.

Ditto here. You can see the ghosting if you look for it under the right conditions, but it is not apparent in normal use. Take the mouse-pointer-on-dark-background ghosting for example. I can see it if I move the pointer at medium speed. But in normal use, the pointer moves much faster, so there is no ghosting to be seen.

I agree though that the ghosting should not be there. But the Dell, for its price, has other advantages. For me, having the wider angles of vision of an S-PVA panel is the clincher, as I can always see the uneven/changing brightness and color uniformity of TN panels.

Is this anything like the motherboards on the GX270 slim workstations? Those were QUITE reliable.

ROFL!!!! I totally know what you're talking about. We had a 25% failure rate on the GX270s. Leaky capacitors, overheating, dead hard drives, blown PSUs you name it.
