i've always thought that a vertically longer screen is much more useful for the websurfer than a widescreen. just got my 2405, it seems to me that longer is more practical?

i do not watch movies on my pc (i watch it on my tv), nor have i started playing games yet...

curious as to why people don't use their widescreen lengthwise.

thx!

I think the main reason is that with a widescreen monitor at 1920x1200 you can easily view two web pages @100%, whcih is better than one. BTW, you don't need widescreen to view an entire word document , I think that vertical is best for 4:3 where you can't do side by side.

SynthDude2001: sent you a private message.

how do you go portrait? i literally just hooked mine up 45 mins ago. i'm using a rather old video card: GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64MB, 1 dvi out, 1 vga out, dvi to the 2405FPW, vga out to the Samsung 21.3" 213T.

any advice would be appreciated.

thx!

Cheesetogo: what does this mean please? " BTW, you don't need widescreen to view an entire word document "

i was thinking that longer means you can read such a long webpage that you don't have to scroll down too often...otherwise, you're always scrolling once you get onto virtually any site

In the nVidia control panel you'll tell it to rotate the screen (either 90 or 180 degrees).

Actually, I believe you can tell the monitor to rotate instead of messing with drivers even.

It would be nice if you didn't have to mess with resizing the windows to run two of them side by side (if you could just tell them to maximiz and they'd only take half the screen).

I didn't think I'd ever use the portrait mode, but I've actually found it useful (viewing pictures for instance). It'd be nice for people who do a lot of photoshop and get pics that are much taller than wide.

I just use two open side by side. I plug my printer into the side of my monitor so flipping it side ways doesn't quite work out so well.

I was meaning that on a regular word document, a 4:3 monitor (non-widescreen) turned verticaly will show the entire document, so you don't need a widescreen monitor. I think it's better to look at two things at once if you have widescreen though.
