I can (and do)!

😀

(Edit: but by no means did I make anything like that in my 20's. I'm 37 now)

$100k is a nice income, but not as uncommon for 20-somethings as a lot of people might think. I work with probably two dozen 20-somethings that make more than that. Just have to have marketable ability and the ability to market it.

You are probably in the top 1% or better of wage earners in our age group (I'm 26).

Even a new lawyer at a top law firm only (!) makes $100K to $125K.

Naa, I'm just teasing you, Mr. Richie Rich. 😛

Assuming at best a 1 year masters program, that means he got up to $100K in 2 years? 🙁 I'm behind.

The tag says you ended your ego after the first sentence, yet it seemed to go on throughout your post. 😛

 i concur

And from what I remember, you have a frugal spirit. I don't mean cheap mind you; rather, more value-driven. Great combination, imo.

Nah, I'm CHEAP! 😀

Remember, from November 2004 to December 2005, I spent a total of $18.xx on stuff that I didn't need (two sticks of ram). Well, I did pay off the house and car! 😀

Yes sir, I do remember! I think I antagonised you a little as well, but that's all in the past 😉 I need to be more frugal...

No, No, Nooooo. 🙁 I need you guys to keep spending to drive the economy and help my stock investments go higher, higher, higher! 😀 Hell, somebody has to spend the money to help my investments! 😱

From the article...

Alas, recent research from benefits consulting firm Hewitt Associates shows that fewer than a third of your compadres -- that is, workers age 18 to 25 -- who are eligible for a 401(k)-type plan actively participate in it. You do not want to be part of this group -- at least not if you want to retire comfortably, and certainly not if you want to have any hope of early retirement.

This is very sad. I know some can't afford it, but many can and just don't. The 401k is the private account (for now) that can take the place of SS and people just don't use it to it's full advantage. Such a shame.

I agree. Compounding is called a Wonder of the World for a reason🙂 Putting money away in your early and mid-20's will pay off handsomely when you are older.

This is something I can't understand as well, especially with those at firms who match up to a certain percentage. In it's simplest forms, those who don't contribute to a matching 401k program are giving away free money.

$135 if you are big law.

24 yr old? seems like he's a 3rd year analyst, on track to become an associate and really start raking it in.

It's ok, you mention it in every income thread. 😀

100K is fairly standard for mid 20's people in NYC.

All lies! 😀

I don't think I've ever actually stated an amount, but even then it was in a thread where it was specifically asked to list it. I try to keep it in the right place. If I didn't I certainly will going forward.
