Community college tuitions are being raised in california. They were interviewing students and faculty, one bright young women voiced the complaint seen in the title. I hope she enrolls a portion of her 80+ units this semester in a math class or two.

$24 a unit is not bad.. I can deal with it.. after all I am paying 11/unit now.. I will happily take the increase to save the state from further troubles.

its still cheaper than univ's.

Just in case no one knows, a typical full-time student takes between 12 and 16 units per semester... Just thought I'd pint that out. People seem to be missing my point.

HAHAHA losers!

You guys should live in FL.. I'm at UF and I pay $80 per credit hour and there's usually 12-15 credit hours a semester ~ $1080. And that's after I lost my scholarship. (Almost EVERYONE starts with it (either 100% tuition and $300/semester for books for getting a 3.5gpa and 1290 on SAT in high school or 75% for 3.5gpa in high school and 1190 or something on the SAT)

haha.. Most people here don't have any debt for college right now

I don't think so, or that is super cheap

My classes are broken down into credits. Most classes are 3 credits, and tuition is like $60 a credit.

Unit = credit = hour. Most classes are 3 units, some harder classes are 4, a few are 5.

2000 a semester for community college seems steep, but not too bad for in state at a major university. I pay almost twice that per quarter here.

and i gotta laugh at the people who seem to be missing the point of notfred's original post. since you all seem to be having trouble, an average person would be paying about $288 dollars a semester under the new tuition, not the $2000 quoted by the girl. so he was making fun of her. now you can rest easy.

i'm in the community college system in california, and although i'd rather not pay more, the increase is very reasonable considering the educational opportunities available. it's still one of the best deals in the nation. i know people who have come here from other states just to go to the community colleges, because although the first year is more expensive, the cheaper second year more than makes up for it.
