Thanks for any input!

A TV will never replace a actual PC monitor. Why ? The pixels are much bigger and reading fonts is not that great.

Which is why people spend 400 bones and buy a 30" 1080p TV , and use it as primary pc monitor. thanks,, gl

Yes absolutely worth it my Hanns G 27.5 inch is the best most noticeable upgrade and the best value PC upgrade I've ever made and I've made MANY expensive upgrades (£500/$650 7800 GTX 512mb comes to mind) in my time.

Depends on the 27 your talking about. If you are going for a TN panel, then a 25-27 is a great deal. I don't think the 27-28 size IPS or PVAs are a good deal though, when you can get a 30 for 20% more. That's just my opinion though.

What KIND of TV?

I just tried this with a 42" Panasonic 1080p plasma and while the gaming was great (no mouse lag), websurfing and desktop was bad because the font lost a lot of clarity...

If I were to go down to 30 inches, what do you think?

I'm using a 27" Dell 1920 x 1200 and love it. Thinking of going to a 30" sometime next year.

The 27"+ IPS monitors are 2560x1440/1600. They're still too expensive but will be far more crisp and have better color than an equal sized 1080/1200 TN display.

OK, been out of PCs for a while, what does IPS stand for and who sells IPS monitors?

I went from 22" 1024x to 27" Asus 1900x1080 LED monitor (2ms) and love it. I know there are people going on about the extra dps above that, but you're usually paying a premium for that. You can get very good deals on larger monitors now if you stick to 1080.

I have a 26 inch LCD TV and I can tell you I notice the difference in size, and 27" is even bigger...

In January Dell U2711 will be calling my name...

Agreed. I am just saying when you spend $1000 on a 27, why not just spend 1200 or so on a 30? It's a signficiant size increase. Unless you get a great deal on a 27, the 30 is just so nice. :)

You can't go wrong with the resolution of either (they are awesome) but the resolution is almost a little small for my taste on a 27.

Went from 22 to 28 (monitor not TV) and that was certainly worth it. Though it was a very cheap 28. I think I'm just not very fussy about image quality to be honest.

I was thinking of going down from my 28inch Hanns G to a 23-24inch 120hz monitor. I'm wondering if that move will be worth it.

I believe 3d will be the next big thing in gaming, My next monitor will be 3d capable. I would wait for the prices to drop some. I'd give it 10 months or so.

In fact I dont recommend anyone to upgrade there monitors till next year because I think 3d is where its at.

I can't decide. Even with a $1K budget, whether to get a high-end 24" (NEC) or mid-grade 27" (U2711) or 30" (E3011). I really don't know what I want.

I still have my trusty DELL FP2001. I don't want anything smaller in terms of screen height, but I do want something larger in terms of diagonal size (wide screen).

I primarily want it for digital photo and general office work. Gaming would be third on my list of priorities. If 3D gaming is where it's all going, and I intend to keep my next monitor for another 5-10 years, then sure, 3D capability might be a plus.

I really don't care about 3d, I was looking for the smoother gameplay aspects of a 120hz monitor. Gaming is geeky enough without wearing glasses the whole time.
