The company offers a 1 year warranty on all PSU's

I don't know. The words "You get what you pay for" seems to come into mind. And plus it's not SLI certified so I wouldn't touch it.

wouldn't trust it, usually cheap powersupplys = boom. I would only buy trusted names for PSU's...but that's only me

The company also makes video cards. I dont know if that means much or not but I bought it. The specs looked really good to me plus I needed one that had the extra 6 pin connector for my graphics card so Im gonna try it.

Ive bought all my psu's cheap for the last 4 years and have never had any trouble and they are still being used to this day in my kids computers so Im not to worried myself about it. but this is me. Good psu's and cheap ones all die out or go boom no matter what anyone says. Plus alot of the times these cheap ones are the manufacture that makes your name brand ones marketed under a different name so whos to tell.

Everyone does it. Wont buy an Isuzu but your most likly to buy a Honda passport which is made by Isuzu. Wont buy a Geo Prizm but buy a Toyota Corrola which is the same thing as the prizm off the same factory line. So goes with PSU's. The one in my rig now is the same as a Ultra. Same case, specs, wires, and insides but has a no name maker stamped on it.

These things sell for $20 on ebay. Cheapest of the cheap. I'd say 10% chance it will kill several parts of your system sooner or later.

And actually funboy you are quitte wrong. The reason we buy namebrand PSU's is because of who made them. Not who markets them.

And enermax/antec/sparkle/dell/etc wouldn't even TOUCH anything made by the guys who make these "ebay specials". These PSU's are utter crap. I've seen Deer PSU's (Argueably one of the better of the "crap" makers) running near 14v on the 12v line brand new.

Nope no band. Just hit the stuff and pray it makes good noise. My father was Jazz drummer, my brother was a rock drummer, my best friend of 15 years plays the drums in 3 different bands in Chicago, my unlce is a Jazz Sax player, and I just hit the stuff and make up my own beats from listing to all of them. Nothing really to die for just to let out some pent up aggression and get some form of excersize.

680W for $40 and you don't think anything's odd when known quality 500W PSUs are over $100?

Don't touch this thing, It'll blow your system, murder your dog, and chop your penis in two down the middle.

I just ordered one of the SkyHawk 520W supplies from newegg using the extra $10 off coupon (see Anandtech deals at top of forum). Did some mild research and reviews were ok - main complaint was that the power supply really has only one 34amp rail versus two rails 18a and 16a. This doesn't meet the new ATX spec. However,my Antec 380s has single 24a rail that wouldn't meet the spec either. One review indicated that the supplier was converting rapidly to the dual rail spec back in May 2005. Perhaps the shipping units will have it.

In any event, as a second PS for back-up purposes, $36 shipped was a nice deal.

Don't have any experience with the Chiefmax unit. 🙁

OK -- very basic question here: Assuming this were a quality PSU (which it seems most agree it is NOT) -- is the ACTUAL electrical consumption (i.e. kwH through your meter) going to be any different than, say, a 300W PSU?

I'm guessing it's not going to double your electrical consumption under the same load conditions, but is there extra overhead, and therefore heat, involved just because it's a higher wattage PSU?

-- just looking to conserve energy and $$... don't want to overbuy in wattage if it'll cost me more down the line.

What you want to look at is efficiency. Most newer PSUs are 70% efficient; your better quality ones are 75% efficient or better. The more efficient, the higher the quality of the components and the more expensive the PSU is going to be. Enermax seems to be the best value IMHO.

haha im waiting for a thermaltake psu to come in, but right now I have a 400watt okia psu that weighs about a pound tiding me over until a replacement shows up...

Haha, I'd run a science experiment and plug 30 old crap ide hard drives into this thing and see if it can really handle a 680-watt load.

Fun stuff. I'm sure it would smoke up in minutes.
