24" or 36" 80 Wire IDE Ribbon Cables -- Signal Problems?

Hi,

I've recently move my components into another case. My CD-ROM and HDD are now too far apart from each other to use a standard 18" 80 Wire IDE ribbon cable. I believe a 24" (or possibly 36") will work as long as the space between drive connectors is more than the 6" on the 18" cable (I need about 9").

Is there any signal loss problem with the longer cables?

Thanks.

I've used up to and 36" IDE cables with no problems on FT Cases, however, I think the official support/recommendation is up to 24"

The actual spec for ata 66/100/133 calls for a max cable legnth of 18", anything above this risks data coruption, however in my exp you can get away w/ quality 24" cables. For HDD's I wouldn't risk using a 36" cable for anything other than ata 33 or lower devices. Hope this helps.... 🙂
