We did the race at Nelson ledges last weekend. Car #61, 89/130.
We got the black "cone of shame" and more black flags than anyone in the history of Lemons, nine.

Anyone else there?

I wish... I read about it a lot on sites like Jalopnik, but have never had the opportunity to see what all the fuss is about in person.

I plan to enter the thunderhill one eventually, but my group hasn't gotten our act together to get our junker ready.

They probably had to tape/bolt/lash a black cone to the top or some part of their car :D

I've wanted to go to one, but there have not been any in CO.

Maybe we should get an AT team going :p

I've never been to a LeMons event, but I did get to see Petit LeMans a Road Atlanta a few weeks ago. That was awesome except for the rain.

LOL, check out he rules.

So looking at the rules, I've found an answer to the "black flag" question I had above. Essentially, you get black-flagged for lousy driving, including hitting temporary barriers (like cones).

Billb2, I have a question for you. How were you able to pull off 9 black flags? At 4, aren't you disqualified?

And I still don't the "black cone" thing. Is that what you get for hitting a cone?

Like I said, I think it's where you have to glue, bolt, tape, a black cone to your car.

Soooo want to do this. My uncle and cousin and brother and I have been throwing around the idea of putting together a clunker for it.

First off there aren't any hard and fast "rules". It's all up to the "judges". It's their show and they can (and do) do anything they want.

The "cone of shame" is (as far as I could tell) awarder for bonehead moves, whatever that may be. All the cones were orange, except ours, which was black. I think we got it for speeding between the black flag building and the entrance to the pits...truely a bonehead move! At one point we got three black flags, with three different drivers in 5 laps!

For anyone that's interested there's talk that the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet Illinois mightl be doing a LeMons race next year.

LMAO

?3.1.1: Rollbar Tubing and Padding: Minimum tubing size for cars weighing under 3000 pounds as raced is 1.50" x .120" or 1.75" x .095". Cars weighing over 3000 pounds as raced must use a minimum tubing size of 1.75" x .120". Properly-bent, racecar-grade and -quality tubing is mandatory: no stretched or crushed bends allowed. DOM mild steel is very strongly recommended over ERW (seamed) tubing.
? 3.1.2: Don't understand any of the above? See where it states "professionally made." You shouldn't be doing this yourself.

Update:

For Gingerman we'll have a "push-to-pass" leafblower turbo, if we can geet it figured out in time.

This is an event I completely want to participate in once I'm done with school. I think if you're a mech. engr. student, this should be a class. Sounds like so much fun.

Just looked at their site. April 17th and 18th? You might need snow tires. The weather is awfully 'iffy' in April.
