24: FOX TV accused of stereotyping muslims

Ugh. Sure I knew it was coming, but frankly, 24 IMO has done a good job throughout the seasons of being very good with it's mix of ethnicities and roles they play. Black people are portrayed very strongly in 24 (President Palmer, one of the heads of CTU). Jack of course is the strong white character. A few seasons ago, there was a real cool Muslim good guy. And heck, this is the only real season where Muslims are the bad guys, as opposed to some evil white guy.
 
Cmon guys, we all know that Muslims never commit acts of terrorism, how could the producers of this show portray them as terrorists????
 
The fact of the matter is that Muslim terrorist sleeper cells have, and still exist today. I see no harm in mimicking it in a TV show, are they going to ban the movie "OSAMA" next? Our PC society makes me want to DIAT (tsunami)

Thats the whole thing, everybody now associates the entire RELIGION with terrorism which is 100% evident from this thread... We just pigeon holed 1.2 BILLION people...

I blame Osama, the hijackers, and the insurgents lopping off heads for the stereotype.

Horrible things get remembered, and they want to play on those fears to make a believable show. Would you keep watching if it were a bunch of hillbillies with a well placed sleeper cell? ...didn't think so. It's a TV show, sorry but TV uses stereotypes.
 
not to mention the people who think wearing osama tshirts is a great thing to do in many of those countries where he's a folk hero😛
 
Interesting, all of you above would have been singing a different tune when that Egyption channel was broadcasting "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion". Heck, that channel is now listed as a terrorist channel 😛 For those who dont know, i think the channel was call Al-Manar or something.
 
Maybe these peaceful muslims should voice their opinions against the real terrorists around the world rather than the TV ones.

Uh... this is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Last few seasons there were tons of good muslims who were not terrorists. In fact, one of the shows outright dealt with racism relating to someone being a muslim. If you read between the lines, what the article insinuates is that the people complaining would like for tv shows to never have ANY muslims be terrorists. That's just as racist if you ask me.
 
So, if you make a show with some terrorists in it, should you make them... Canadians or something? Blame Canada!

eh.. some stereotypes are based on truth or partial truth. The fact is radical muslims are behind the most recent terrorist attack. Who do you think should be portrayed as a terrorist instead? a Chinese Monk? :disgust:
