23"-24" monitor, 16:9 or 16:10?

Trying to decide what size monitor to buy, and if I should splurge for the 16:10.

I've had dual 19" Dell Ultrasharps running 1280X1024 since 2004 and have been very happy with them. So going 16:9 would in theory be same height I've been working on, just wider at 1920X1080. 16:10 will give me some extra height with the sizing being 1920X1200.

My usage:
I mostly work in web browsers, documents, spreadsheets, and some light web dev/graphics work. I do some print work, but it is only about 10% of what I do. I do NOT game at all.


Considering:
U2312HM $199 which is 23" and 16:9, 1920X1080
U2412M $310+/- which is 24" and 16:10 at 1920X1200
U2410 $400+/- which is 24" and 16:10 at 1920X1200 but is a 10 bit panel, but I've heard required calibration which can be a pain.

Do I go with the U2312hm and save myself a ton, or go U2412M, get the bonus in size, and a little less quality than the U2410?

Guess i'm at the point where i'm probably going with the U2312HM or the U2412M, just a matter of spending an extra $110 for the extra 120 pixels in height?

Anyone care to share their input?🙂
 
Heh heh, I'm rocking the same set-up presently.

I really like the extra vertical space on the 2412 over the 2312. Unless you're doing lots of vid/photo editing I wouldn't go for the 2410 or the newer 2413.
 
The 2410 (and the 2312 also i think) have a serious anti-glare coating.

The 2412's is more subdued so it doesn't give off that sparkly residue feeling.

Thanks for the input, so your vote is for the U2412m. I know this monitor has been out for a while and I see the 2413 is on the verge of breaking into the market, but I heard it was going to be a ton of cash, so the 2412 is sounding good right about now.

Just have to flip a coin I guess. Go 2312 and save $110 now to put towards a second monitor later. Or, go 2412 and keep it for mad long. If the 2412 lasts as long as my 19"'s the next time I upgrade i'll probably be getting a 50" monitor lol.
 
Just keep in mind what the intended audiences are.

The 2413 is a professional grade, wide-gamut monitor. It's supposed to replace the 2410, not the 2412. The 2412 is standard gamut and designed w/ non-graphics-essential professionals in mind. Check out the review of the 2413 here, it summarizes some of the differences within the ultrasharp line-up in the opening.

On the plus side, it looks like the 2413 will have more subdued AG coating, so if you do need the wide-gamut monitor, it seems like an excellent choice vs. the 2410.

Just keep in mind that the 23-in side of that coin comes with a very heavy AG coating 🙂. The 2412 hits my sweet spot for price/performance, screen real estate, and AG coating.

More reasons why my gut on the u2412 says just buy it! Thanks for all this info.

Think I should buy for $310 now, or wait till it drops a bit? I've seen it as low as $279 but for a few bucks I might just buy it at the $310 price via Amazon.

I would get it from Dell if you can.

It was $249 direct from Dell last week in Canada.

Yeah I saw that but missed it. Any idea if the warranty or anything is different if you buy from the Canada site and live in the USA?

If the same price, is it better to buy direct from dell versus someone like Amazon? I know Amazon has a 30 day return policy but you must pay shipping. Is it better to buy from Dell so the warranty and all of that is direct, and I then get dell service since purchased from them also?

Far better to buy from Dell direct. You have no headaches with warranty issues that way.

You can't buy from the Canada site if you're in the US - you can't get it delivered out of country. You'll have to order from the US Dell site for that.
 
If you're doing any color critical work you want the U2410 from that list. If you're doing web and print work you should own a color puck.
 
I'm not going to name specific monitors, but I much more like 16:10 screen, it is slightly taller than 16:9 and more comfortable for me.

I'm searching for the perfect 24" (1600x1200) for casual web browsing and light gaming and I was considering this model.

Does anyone else have suggestions for under $400?
