I'm upgrading my AM2 system, which is currently running on X2 4000+, 2GB RAM (I plan on upgrading it to 4GB at later date, not with this upgrade), 420W PSU (can't recall brand/model now, can look up later when I get home), and a 256MB 7600GT.

I want to upgrade the system so it can better handle games (Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, and probably newer games later) at higher resolutions and settings. I figure my best bet is to upgrade the GPU and CPU to a HD 4770 and a Athlon 64 X2 6400+, respectively. Would I need a more powerful PSU for that combo, and would I be better off with a different CPU or GPU? Thanks :)

What resolution do you want to game at? The 4770 is a great card for 16x10 but runs out of steam at 19x12.

It's a low-power card so it ought to run with a good 420watt but it depends on the 12V amps, an older PSU would have too much of its rating on the 5V.

In your shoes I might get the video card first, to see if it makes enough of a difference on its own.

16x10 is pretty much what I want to run at for most games.
I'll try ordering the card first and see how it runs.
