22 handguns, is ruger the way to go?

I've been shooting more and more with my 9mm, and even though it's on the cheaper end it's still a good ~$60 to shoot every hour I go. I'd like to have a 22 so I can still get out shooting as often, just not basically blow the equivalent of a brand new console game to punch holes in paper D:

The Ruger MKs seem to be the classic standby, though I've heard they're kind of a pain to strip and clean well. Lots of pieces and easy to lose stuff. Is that true and are Rugers still the best bang for you buck?

I also was looking at the fitted Brownings but they're a little pricey. Seems a little counter intuitive to try and save more money by spending over 350 on a plinker.

Check out the Sig Mosquito for an alternative as well. Cool gun

But yes, Ruger's are sweet .22 pistols

I looked at the Mosquito a bit because my local shop has it on "sale" for $290 this month. Not sure if it's a solid price, but I've also read it has jamming problems.

I've also heard bad things about the Sig Mosquito.

Ruger mkII/mkIII seems to be the most reccomended.

It jams if you feed it shit ammo. I only put mini-mags through it and I've never had an issue.

I was on my way to get a Ruger when I looked at the Buckmark, it just felt better in my hand. I've been shooting it for 2 years now with no problems. I don't think you would be unhappy with a Ruger but I have never been sorry that I went with the Browning.

My old man has a MkIII that's very reliable. He had a MkII years ago too so maybe he's use to it, but doesn't have any major issues with the tear down. I know it's a little tricky but once you figure it out it's not too bad.

I actually had an order in for a Browning Buckmark Hunter at a local place from back in Mid-March... I just recently cancelled it because apparently Browning is having manufacturing issues with all their pistols atm. If there's a specific model you want, it might be a bit hard to find right now.

if you want something reliable, get a ruger or browning

not sure why aquaman suggested a gun that shoots .22 mag, as that is going to be more expensive than .22 LR. Obviously it depends on where you buy it and prices fluctuate, but price of 250 rounds of .22 mag, you can buy 2000 rounds of .22 lr.

Co-worker bought a Mosquito earlier this year and had problems finding extra mags at local shops. I looked up some placed online where he could order, and in the process found (1) not so favorable things said about the gun, and (2) overpriced mags.

My first handgun was a MKII Target. Still have it. Still happy with it. Still shoot it all the time. Still fun. Shot thousands of rounds of "crap ammo" (stuff that comes 300 to 550 a box) through it. Had to replace a rebound spring in the bolt ($2 retail), but it's been maintenance free except for that.

I interpreted as "22 handguns, need a 23rd".

thats what i thought at first too.

to the people who say "oh, i thought it said handjobs", etc. really? that was funny maybe the 1st few times I saw it but no it's not funny. Also, $10 says you didn't really think that, you're just "trying" to be funny.

Ruger or Walther p22. The Ruger is more accurate, really nice for target practice, pain to clean though. The Walther isn't as accurate but I love shooting it for some reason, really really light too.

I own a beretta neos and a ruger 22/45 with the bull barrel. They both have thier pros and cons.

I got the neos with the 6in barrel. That gun is more accurate than the ruger and has a more natural feeling grip (eventhough it doesn't look that way). The neos is also easier to strip and clean. It isn't as realiable though as the ruger, as I've never had my ruger jam and I have had the neos jam a few times. I also use shit walmart ammo, so if you use quality ammo I'm sure you wont have as many issues.

The neos does have a cheap finish and will rust. Mine has some slight rust on it, while the ruger is still perfect and both guns have recieved the same cleaning regiment and I've had the Ruger for 5 years longer. The neos is also cheaper ($275 vs $360+).

The only qualm I have with the ruger is that the front sight screw loosens over time as you fire it and then the sight will wiggle. A little glue or locktite will fix this though. Also the ruger has slightly more parts when you break it down, and I have had one break. It took about 6 weeks for ruger to ship me the damn part.

Seconded on count 1. No qualification necessary on count 2. My Ruger .22 rifle, bought for me when I was 5 years old, is still my weapon of choice for the range.
