I know this has probably been beaten to death here but I'm wondering what would be the best pick between these two. The LG is $280 at Bestbuy on sale right now while the Samsung is around the same price after rebate. Obviously it would be nicer to not have to send in a rebate, but if the Samsung is really a better monitor then I would be willing to do that. These panels seem really similar but the thing that has me leaning towards the LG iss the panel lottery associated with the 226BW. Is the same true for the LG?

Again, sorry for posting this thread when it's probably been done 10 times in the past month but I've searched and I wasn't really able to find what I was looking for. Thanks. :)

EDIT: http://staples.shoplocal.com/s...3449162DB53&t=00:00:00 Saw this Dell in another thread, and Dells tend to have a really good reputation (ot at least used to, they are Samsung OEMs right?) I really like the design of this monitor but the ad doesn't specify what exact model it is, as far as I could tell.

no doubt the Samsung. yes there is still some issue with the panel lottery but if you buy one from a retail store like Best Buy and don't like it you can always return it and buy it again somewhere else in hopes of getting a dif one. The Samsung is too good to pass up in that price range because if you get an S panel you'll be enjoying it for a long time.

Just realized that if I do buy it at a local store such as Bestbuy the rebate will not be valid, meaning the 226 is going to be about $320 vs. the $280 for the LG. :( What are the real advantages that the Samsung offers, and how about that Dell that I added?

That Viewsonic looks decent, but, not to sound weird but I can't stand built in speakers. So after rebate I could get the 226BW, but it would have to be from an online vendor for the rebate to still be valid, meaning I couldn't really return it if I got an A or C or whatever other panels that are inferior to the S panel. I looked on Digital Versus and the LG does seem to have a bit more input lag, but I'm not sure if it's really worth the extra $50 for the Samsung.

I went with the samsung and I absolutely love it. Best 22" that I have seen so far.

Dont worry about A or C or whatever panels. All of the new ones (AFAIK) are not marked as to which panel they have. I have an unmarked one that shows as a C panel in the hidden service menu, and it is beautiful. Don't worry about it.

Oh I know that. I just don't like how they look, I don't know I guess I'm a little too picky haha . Looks like I will go with the the 226 after further research then. After reading some I am now under the impression that the panels other than the "S" panels are almost identical in response time and only lack the factory preset color quality that the S panel does. After some calibration they should be nearly identical correct? Also, not to sound completely noob, but how does one go about correctly calibrating a monitor? I'd assume theres some kind of program you can download that will help you adjust the settings accurately? Thanks for the responses.

Yes, they should be identical for the most part.

I did not even have to calibrate mine out of the box, it was fine.

Bought two of the 226bw monitors a few months ago. As adairusmc points out, they no longer mark them and they've even removed the hidden service menu info. No way to know which panels I got without dismantling the monitor. Both had a slight blueish tint out of the box, but a quick search on google led me to a page where some nice guy has prebuilt color profiiles and instructions on how to load them up in windows. Worked like a charm. Sorry don't have the link right now.

if you do get one and want to see what panel it has it's pretty easy to take apart. I've done it multiple times and looks just as good as new when put back together.

Do you want to go to the bottom of this? Do you want to spend some time? ;)

Then read up:

http://www.behardware.com/arti...the-second-coming.html

http://www.behardware.com/arti...tors-the-3rd-wave.html

But then, do you want to know about the newest 226BW killer? Then it's time to trot out your French... or translate it with Google:

http://www.lesnumeriques.com/article-312-2440-36.html

Beharware and lesnumeriques are brother sites. The 2232BW review is eventually going to be translated and appear on behardware.

Don't forget the face-to-face on digitalversus, the English version of lesnumeriques:

I thought the 2232bw and 226bw use the same panel(s) anyway it's just a redesign. I wonder if anyone has taken a 2232bw apart yet to look.

Despite similar panels being used in the 226 and 2232 (including A and C panels), the LesNumeriques article mentions that the overdrive (RTC) implementation has been changed in the 2232. It is less aggressive so as to minimize visible artifacts, like the well-known inverse ghosting.

Has anyone noticed that the Samsung 226BW initially listed having 1000:1 contrast ratio and now only has 700:1?

While doing research, I noticed that there are 2 versions of the 226BW. 226BW-TAA 1000:1 and 226BW 700:1.

mWave has both. mWave Samsung 226BW's

Something like This

It is said to be inverse because the normal ghosting of the white icon should be white, but the ghosting seen here is black. It is in fact an error generated by the overdrive circuit in the monitor.

Ended up buying a 226BW off buy.com for $270 shipped AR. Hopefully it's one of the 1000:1 panels. Buy.com lists it as 1000:1 so it better be. The 2232 looks interesting but I actually like the design of the 226 more, and other than that they seem to be pretty similar (though the 2232 does seem to have some minor upgrades, but I would probably never notice to be honest anyway, plus it's more money). I also just bought an 8800GT from Bestbuy with the 10% off coupon and after tax it was $246 out the door (I used $25 in old giftcards). I still haven't opened it yet as the rest of my parts haven't gotten here yet, but I heard about this Holiday gift return policy that BB is having. Not to change the subject but does anyone know if this applies to opened cards? I have seen a bunch of people who jumped on this deal saying that they will just use the card until January and it something better comes out they will return it. Seems kinda grimy but is it possible? Otherwise I might think about spending the extra for the eVGA because of the slightly faster clocks (probably doesn't matter much), Quake Wars (doesn't look that great IMO but I'm not sure) and the step up. If the card can be returned after being opened at BB then that is pretty much as good as step up as far as I can see.

Just got the 226 and haven't taken it out of the box yet because the rest of my parts aren't here, but all it says on the box is "3000"1" dynamic contrast which means nothing. Probably is a 700:1 panel, but what are you going to do. This whole panel lottery thing is pretty ridiculous.
