1680x1050 is fine with me. I love my LG monitor....but soon I will upgrade to a 24" monitor with prices coming down every month.

I'd say 1680x1050 is still less common than 1280x1024 or 1440x900, but it's getting there. Right now I'm just happy to be ahead of the curve with a nice 22" E-IPS LCD that I can run comfortably with a low-midrange video card. I'm not feeling an urge to make a jump to 1900x1200/1080, but maybe in a few years.

The extra pixels are only useful if the monitor is physically bigger. Putting more pixels into the same physical space just makes things smaller and unreadable. Rather than buying a bigger monitor to get more desktop space, I'm using 2 monitors. IMO, using 2 monitors is better than 1 huge monitor since I can always just turn 1 off and save power when I don't need that extra desktop space (it's off 99% of the time).

As for games, extra resolution is useless at this point. Even at 1680x1050, Far Cry 2 at max quality is barely playable on a GTX 285. To get any game running at full resolution on a 1080p or 19x12 monitor, you would either need to turn the graphics settings down or own the best computer on the planet.

Me too, and I have no plans to upgrade in the immediate future.

it does for people like me and I do have perfect vision. I just went from a 24inch to a 23inch both at 1920x1080 and my eyes are straining a bit more as even that one inch change made things much harder to read. also I cant see the improvement in dot pitch you were mentioning earlier since with smaller monitors with a high res you have to move them closer to you thus negating that smaller dot pitch advantage. in other words a bigger screen pushed a little further away will look just as crisp as a smaller one with the same res that has to be closer to you just to read things. a 25-26 inch 1920x1080 or 1200 screen is what I prefer and I slightly regret getting this 23inch one already.
