Just to check how far the stock dell hynix would go, I swapped in a 2.4C. To say I was surprised was an understatement.

1000FSB

I managed to run 244FSB for 30 minutes of prime95 before it was manually shut down. Quickly ran 3dmark 2001SE and managed a score of 19,018. Not too shabby for a mere 2.928GHz. Only ~2,000 points off from the 3.2E @ 3.6.

Dell 9100
2.4C @ 2.92, 244FSB
512MB Stock Hynix 3-3-3-8
MR9800 @ 459 / 452

Well 450Mhz is not a usual memory overclock for desktop 9800. From what I saw, memory had a nice impact on performance.

Edit: Plus, what pete said. X800 architecture helps.

Yup, it's a full R420 with some quads disabled. Who knows, maybe it's possible to make it fully 16-pipe, but notebook cooling and power limits may not make that a great idea.

Then again, 450/450 sounds a little crazy in a notebook, so anything's possible. Are there apps to unlock quads on the R420? >😀

.13um and all?

Not sure about .13nm process but it has the X800 features such as 3Dc and SM2.0b.

edit: I just found it that it uses .13nm low-k process, Here's the full specs sheet, Official page.

Well that explains the core o/c speeds... I wonder what kind of memory it uses? Would be funny if it was GDDR3 but I bet it's just fast GDDR1 .. Either way, that's an awesome "9800" o/c!

I think it uses DDR3 RAM. Probably why it can score so high on 3DMark03. Also all the X800 series, even the crippled X800 SE, uses DDR3 RAM so I'm guessing that one might also.

wtf. my x800xt pe gets like 20400 when my a64 3200+ is at stock, and 24500 when oced to 2.5ghz whats goin on

edit: but it seems i beat you on 03, i get bout 11k all stock (cpu and vid default)

Because at 3200+ stock speeds, your system is CPU bottlenecked. Thats why the system screams overclocked @ 2.5Ghz
