I have a knife just like that. Different brand I'm sure, but basically the same. It's one of my most used knives.

Being one that likes to cook I was intrigued by Howards thread on cooking supplies. There was some discussion on Chinese knives, and looking at knife forums on the web people were generally in awe of the relatively inexpensive CCK ones. When I went to Toronto, I bought two since it's the only place outside of SF where you can walk in and by them.

I got mine from an Asian grocery years ago. It appears it's Diamond brand Yang Jiang China #1. LoL, I don't know. It looks like a real piece of crap, but it works great, and has held up well over the years.

In Kinmen they still make cleavers out of Communist China shells that landed on that rock in 1958. Famous bombshell cleavers  Current projection is that they have at least another 30 year supply of shells

"On Aug. 23, 1958, Chinese forces launched a bombardment of Kinmen that was intended to soften the Nationalist forces prior to a communist invasion. Over the next 44 days, as many as 470,000 shells were fired at the 150 square kilometre island. The troops, however, stood firm against the devastating onslaught and the invasion attempt was an utter failure."
