I've heard of var-tec. It's just a phone/communications company. It's a pyramid scheme, but a legal one. Been around for ages.

I'm not going to post Sean's full name, nor Dustin's, just out of propriety, but if Gnote feels that the gig is up, then fine. :)

That's not the Sean from above.

Yes it is.

LoL, syringer, you don't even know who scammed you out of 300 dollars

Hmm, it said "Shawn Herrick" at the bottom of the page. Thought that was the Sean/Shawn he was referring to.

And:

a) I got my money back and
b) I'm still waiting for my money back from you :p

I got recruited by a Vartec person while walking around campus. He totally lied up front to me, saying something about a company opening up an office in my city, and when i met him in a lobby of a hotel, he brought out his laptop, and i immediately recognized what he was about to show me. It was impressive that he was driving a brand new white NSX, but I'm not going to scam my friends and family for that

Excel communications..

they still around??? bah...

CSUS's paper Statehornet had an article about the group scamming students... bah! They run around campus putting posters up for jobs and worse yet grab students outside the union. THey got kicked out of campus a few times.

People are equally to blame, they fall for this kind of crap.

That's nice, I hope he crashes it and dies a horrible, fiery death.

Ahh, Excel Communications.

Typical, typical, typical pyramid scheme. A friend of mine got into this...dunno how it worked out, though. His roommate sold Cutco knives.

Actually I went to an Excel meeting about 10 yrs ago.
I was so damm excited after the sales pitch and was telling my friends all about it.
I never got the $300 to join and forgot about it weeks later.
I only found out later that its a pyramid scheme....a legal one anyhow.

I had a friend go to one of those MLM groups a few years back. It was called "Alpha Club." I told him not to go. He came back with glossy magazines with racing cars and tales of pyrotechnics. He sat before me and wrote a cheque for 5K. I begged him to tear it up.

He went to another meeting and that was the last he saw of his money and the last we heard of the "Alpha Club."

HOLY SH!T!!!!!!!!!! One of my buddies was in the Vartec Communications scheme, and was telling me of all the money he was making. I went for an interview and as soon as the guy brought up the $400 startup fee I was gone. I knew it was kind of shady, but nothing like this. Whoever gets into this is a POS asshole.

i dont believe he made all that money from MLM. I think he REALLY got the money for that nice car from taking all of our tech jobs here in the U.S.

wait, isnt Excel just a MLM selling telecom stuff like switching over your telephone service or long distance? I've been recruited for it but i firmly believe in the "if it sounds too good to be true..." axiom, so i passed on it. Truthfully, if it was that good, EVERYONE would be doing it. It's just not logical.

Yeah the MLM part kind of reminds us all of chain letters, but aside from that, i don't think it's all that different than most sales jobs in the US. So you're selling a product or service and are also making a bonus on recruiting new employees. Ok, so the products might be overpriced, but so are the $25 USB cables at Staples. Am I missing something?
