1 big difference, In N Out is also not a public company with share holders.

I think that's a problem with many companies today. They answer to a board who answers to investors who want little more than absolute profit for their own bottom line. Customers and employees become far less important than do operations and fiscal decisions that impact the investors and the board.

McD is totally unskilled entry level work,
true dat

I had to fly on business a couple of weeks ago and stopped at the mcducks at DIA for some coffee and every one of the employees working behind the counter were straight up off the boat from africa. i could barely understand a word and the girl who took my order had a supervisor standing over her shoulder watching her ring up people.

which bring me to a question based on observation. why a majority of the employees who work the shops at major airports new immigrants?

I enjoy the occasional visit to them but I have to get the fries well done for them to be even remotely palatable. Apparently soaking and the double fry are techniques unknown to them.

Local family owned burger joints (the good ones at least) > Whataburger > 5 guy >>>>>>>> INO > McD

Of course you have to preface it with only the good local ones because there are infinitely more bad ones than good ones which is why I always laugh when people automatically assume any mom and pop local place is automatically better than a chain because it just isn't. They are few and far between.

I have a lot of Greek diners in my area. They truly make the best burger and fries.

Honestly just because it is a chain doesn't make it bad. My favorite two burgers (Hopdoddy and Mighty Fine) are both chains.

You are correct Whataburger is the best drive through burger (unless you come to Austin, then go to Hat Creek).

The beef in an INO burger is dry and tasteless. The flavor for the hamburger comes from the cheese, sauce, and bun, which IMO, is a fail. For $3 though, you probably cant find much better.

For three bucks, I'd probably just microwave a half dozen frozen White Castles I guess, but that's just me maybe.

I forget what the wife gets em for at the store offhand, but usually like em for lunch at work now and again.

shareholder capitalism vs. entrepreneur capitalism.

wait waht? we're talking about in-n-out, right?

in-n-out has the worst fresh cut fries i've ever had. bland and tasteless.

What they taste like are fresh good potatoes fried in clean oil. The taste is actually similar to fresh potato chips, its a potato taste, not flavoring.

Like it or not is personal preference, but once you are hooked on the taste, INO has you for life, because you will from time to time crave the unique taste.

There are several burgers that have a signature taste burnt into my brain, and I apparently have no choice in wanting them from time to time.

5 guys is very tasty, but its a topping place, not a best beef place, nobody in fast food is IMHO.

I moved to Texas about a year ago from the SFBay area and I have yet to understand the fascination with Whataburger. It really is not that good yet people talk about it and consume it as it where the best burger ever created here in Texas.

If you have not tried it give smashburger a try.

In n out is good for the price sort of. In reality the amount of beef in a double double is so small that i am not so sure it is a good value. Think it is 1/4 lb? Anyway you can get better burgers for a few bucks more almost anywhere.

At a fast food price point!

I have had much better fries before than INO, but for the price theirs are better than any major burger chain.

Of course real whole food will pale in comparison to repeatedly bombarding your tastebuds with scientifically engineered lab manufactured food. Obviously you would need to retrain your brain, start with fruit/veggie smoothies if you don't know the difference between whole and processed.

Actually it doesn't shock me the average American knows little about the origins/sources of their food, much less their fast food. I actually loved INO's burgers (when in Cali) and now regret not trying their fries.

However I still would rather support local businessmen, including Greek diners who still make way better burgers with greater portions and quality. Although I'd actually support INO just to spite corporate shitholes such as McDonald's.
