Assuming children's safety is really the goal, the law is well-intentioned, but the 24/7 aspect of it is idiotic. However, one would hope a cop would not pull you over if you were doing 35 in a school zone at 2 AM on a Tuesday in July or something.
Besides, don't you guys NOT have sales tax in Oregon? I think that makes up for it.
Believe me, we have plenty of other taxes to make up for it. :|

Dream on. Your other taxes aren't out of line with those in the other states. Or, look at it this way. You could live in NY with 8.25% sales tax, one of the highest property tax rates, and one of the higher income tax rates.

wow that sounds like Los Angeles county

I did not say our taxes are out of line with other states.
I said some of our other taxes are high to make up for the lack of a sales tax, which is true.

Is this fvcking state wide!? Or just in Multnomah County?

Statewide. Wonder if it'll be permanent or will be changed to something more sane after a few legislators get tickets for not driving 20 mph at 3am on Christmas.

They don't get tickets...professional courtesy

Maybe in Salem or in their hometown/county, but not every cop is terribly interested in politics.

Anyone having aspirations of becoming promoted will not give tickets to those who have clout

Sure enough...

Drove by a school today and saw a photo radar van just waiting for someone. I just don't understand the point of not being able to drive the normal speed limit (30mph on that particular road) at 6:30am on a July morning.

I say everysingle person in the state of Oregon speeds down the road at 45mph at 2AM sunday night in july and backup the courts for 4-5years.
