20mbps FIOS

Nice! How much you paying and where are you located? I'm getting tired of my 375kb/s DSL connection...

DAYMN, I am jealous!

If I were you, I'd build a separate machine just to make a game server!
CSS, BF2, whatever!

Their introductory deal is $39.95/month for the first six months and then it goes to $49.95.

Afetr I get my upload speed to 5 meg, I might consider it.
But still, I have a dynamic IP address.

Bah, damned Charter. 3000/256 sucks. That's awesome man, I guess you'll be picking up a few of the new 1TB hard drives then? 😛

Who is selling them BTW? 😉

Try this test

It appears the Verizon test is using a tester like this one. Some have issues. Not that my computer's connection will bring them up - but the RT can as it's lanned to an OC12 frame.

Ruby,

According to that test, I get 12.7meg down and 4.7Meg up.
I ran it three times and the speeds were very consistent.

I also noticed the server is located in Virginia.
WTF?

The download ratings will be lower at peak times but the upload is close to what you should be getting. The best time to run that test would be between 3 and 6 AM Eastern Time.

dyndns.org should fix that issue right up.

That's odd. I thought Verizon Fios packages were 5Mbit, 15Mbit, and 30Mbit. Try using a non Verizon speed test, like Ookla Net Metrics and see what you get.

Yeah, I've been waiting for Verizon to make me a great deal on the 15Mbit service but they mentioned this 20Mbit was just arriving.

17.449M UP
2.08M DOWN

This looks more like the results from the Verizon test.
Of course, it thinks I'm 1100 miles away from Tampa (60 actual). 😛

Hmm, I'm not seeing any mention of a 20Mbit service on their website. I would love to get either the 15Mbit or 20Mbit connection, but unfortunately I'm stuck with my campus connection, which one would THINK is fast, but after it gets bogged down by a firewall, monitoring software, and the thousands of students using it, I only get 2-3Mbit down average. 🙁

Here's what happened:

Verizon had strung fiber down my street about a year and a half ago. I was on their 3Mbit DSL service but I certainly wasn't going to be the FIRST one to sign up for the FIOS. I had researched their business plan which required a certain percentage of subscribers (35-55% I estimated) to switch over to FIOS in order to feed revenue for the next expansion phase. They have been aggressively telemarketing in my area and my response has always been "I have no interest in the 5Mbit, but the 15Mbit YES. Make me an offer I can't refuse". 😛
Certain offers were discussed over repeated attempts (this has been going on since October) but they never came across with something that WOWED me. Until around Easter time. A "cold" call came from Verizon one evening and I talked with a nice woman AGAIN until I said "Can I talk with your supervisor?". She thought she had said something wrong and seemed very apologetic but I allayed her fears and she connected me. When the supervisor go on, I said "How long are you guys going to jerk me around? I've been waiting for you to offer me a KILLER deal for six months now with calls every week. Are you going to dance, or get off the floor?" That's when he mentioned the 20Mbit service and the current offer for the 15Mbit would be upgraded to the 20.

Of course, I had to say YES!

Are you paying for 5, 15, or 20 or what I am confused. The $50/month corresponds to the 15 on their website which I assume hasn't been updated. Either way you're paying for 2 upstream so Verizon isn't cheating you.

Okay, I'm paying for the 15/2Mbit service but I'm supposed to be getting the 20/5Mbit service.

Note the URL and check for yourself.
