you're only spending 20k on a car, and you're making comments like "too low end." are you a tard, or just living on the moon?

...there's a certain degree of class associated with some other cars, versus the tC. For some, civic to accord is a step up. For others, not so much... so I woudln't exactly group all $20k cars in one category.

...which is why buying a used high end car is a viable alternative ;).

Hopefully that used high end doesn't mean more expensive parts, premium fuel, higher insurance, etc...

Otherwise, you're just going used/older/higher mileage just to spend more money

If going new: Camry (maybe V6 if you can bargain), Sonata V6, the new Saturn Aura looks promising, Accord, Mazda 6, Legacy 2.5L, Ford Fusion / Five Hundred

If going used: Acura TL, Audi A4 (ONLY if you want, but I'm sick of all the problems I'm currently having with my 2001 A4 :| ), Cadillac CTS, Saab 9-5, Honda / Toyota anything, Nissan Maxima

And that's about all I can think of for now.

G35?

new civic is the same class as a used G35?

ok then

maybe you should specify that you want a used car......... pricing comparisons between new and used cars are never really fair (as far as class).

but if you are ragging on the civic idea, you should still consider:
1.) the civic will probably be worth more in 5 years
2.) you will pay less insurance on the civic
3.) you will pay A LOT less for gas (40mpg ftw?)
4.) maintenance for the civic will be cheaper

in the long run you will probably making a better financial decision with a civic. then again, if you have the extra expendable income, why limit yourself to $20k?

Exactly. People need to learn to look at the total cost of ownership.

Interest + Maintenance + Repairs + Insurance + Fuel + Depreciation + Taxes/Fees

The purchase price affects only half of the things on the list...if that

[Edit] You'd likely see the same purchase price for a 2003 G35 w/60k miles on it as you would a brand new Civic EX. However, the difference in price of ownership is about $10k over the next 10 years (source: Edmunds)
