I never received an email from Maxtor saying they receiced my rebates. Yes, I got two drives(45gb) and modded one of the controllers for raid 0! IF I do get my rebates(and I better!!) with the deal I worked out, I'm looking at around $50/per drive. Gotta love it!

Keep those HD posts comin! Could always use more space :D

busta, according to PcWorld's latest hd review, the maxtor 5400 rpm drives beat some of its 7200 rpm competitor. That just shows how good maxtor drives are.

Anyone confirm linux support for this setup? I did a search and found linux support for ata/100, but not in this specific configuration. I don't really want a ata/100 Pci conroller as a doorstop.

just brought mine a few minutes back. thx for posting. worked out to $76.12 after tax for HDD. Only problem is that you have to go to B&M OD, not the web site, to buy the ATA100 Controller card to get the $50 rebate.
Shucks....guess you do have to do a little bit of work to get a great deal.

Does staples sell the controller card?

Is the 30 off 100 for new customers or for everyone

Staples does sell the controller card. Do a search for "Maxtor PCI" and it will come up.

On a side note, I just recieved a call from a Staples CSR, and she informed me that the hard drive I ordered was a "special order" and that it wouldn't ship until the 13th of this month. BTW, I ordered from the website.

Two questions in regard to this hot deal. 1) Does the Maxtor 20gb harddrive come with the flat 100 ata ide controller cable? 2) Does the Maxtor ATA controller card come with a flat ide ata 100 controller cable?
( if they don't, well, then, I need to order one )

Can someone post or forward me an original Staples $30 off $100 coupon e-mail?
The store manager at my Staples said I have to have a print out to use it in the store. He's a do-do head.

Thanks,

Just did this deal at my store $75.12 with tax and certs (they made me buy something to get over 100). Works great for me as I am upgrading from a 3000 rpm 6 gb non dma with 128kb of cache, so this should help out quite a bit.

Someone also mentioned Simply accounting for $80 and the ATA card for $50 then apply $30 coupon to buy both for $100. The simply Acct. comes with $100 rebate... i don't know how it's gonna work when i only paid $80 for it.... $70 for the 20GB HD, $100 for the card and Simply Acct. - $150 rebates nets $20 total plus taxes and stamps...

thanks :)

EDIT: oops, my bad... that $100 rebate's the expired one. The current rebate is $80... :p

YUNIVERSE:

I did the simply accounting software deal and that $100 rebate is DEAD. If you read it it says expires november, 2000 or something like that. If you go to www.staplesrebates.com
click on get rebate and then search for the manufacturer ACCPAC.

An $80 rebate will come up...that is the one you use.

edit: Never mind, I didn't see the edit.
