20GB Maxtor drive for $70 and NO rebates

it's listed at staples.com under hard drives $99.99, add .01 to your cart, a pen or something, and use $30 off $100 coupon that can be had at techbargains. Not a great deal but I don't see a lot of hard drives for under $100.

Nice deal. Don't forget the free after rebate Maxtor ATA100 controller. Just posted this info on another thread.

Here's the link to the Maxtor website with the promotion info. Just click on Promotions on the left side of the screen. http://www.maxtor.com/MaxtorHome.htm

According to the rebate information on this second promotion you can get the rebate on the controller card with just about any size Maxtor drive. In the first promotion you were limited to 40GB and above. You don't have to buy the card and the drive at the same store or at the same time.

I just ordered a Maxtor 20GB 5400RPM (plan to use it as a backup drive) for $70 + tax at staples.com. The drive is $99.99, added the MSN starter kit for .01 then a $30 off $100 coupon. I plan to buy the controller card at OD B&M using a $15 off $50 coupon here. My final cost should be $55 + tax (~$8 for me) after coupons and rebate for the drive and controller card

Thanks, I forgot all about Staples $30.00 coupon. I had to go to slickdealsdotnet to find it. I was looking for a good cheap hard drive. I've always had good luck with Maxtor. I like their quick copy of old hard drive start up disk they have.

Be carefull here. Maxtor requires a "Hard Drive Kit" and Staples doesn't specify that this one is a kit. If you scroll down you will find another 20GB that is a kit but is $40 more. Just thought I would give a heads up.

I think by 'kit' they mean with all the bay rails, screws, kit'n kaboodle, etc.

I've installed Maxtors before, and they're not much different from other HDD installtions.

I order this drive a week and a half ago. The site said that the drive was ATA/66 with a 512k cache. What I got was ATA/100 with a 2MB cache!😀 Same rotation speed(5400rpm), though.😛

KimChii:

I realize that. I'm saying that one says it is the other doesn't. Maxtor may not accept it if it isn't.

Look at the rebate instructions. The details will list "kit numbers" which do not necessarily mean that the item covered by the rebate is a Maxtor harddrive "kit". If someone has the rebate form handy, please post the "kit" numbers that qualify for the rebate....

Please, before you bash someone's hot deal, research your claims. As I stated above, the word "kit" in the Maxtor rebate forms is simply referring to retail packaged Maxtor harddrives starting with the following numbers:

ST01, ST04, ST06, V06, K01 and K04

Here's direct from Maxtor's website:

As you can see above, the rebate form (on the Maxtor website) requires that you purchase the ATA100 controller card in combination with a Maxtor harddrive.

So now, who has the "kit" numbers from the retailed packaged 20GB Maxtor harddrives, as well as the SKUs and pricing for the ATA100 controller card....

edit - I stand corrected. The FAQ page states the following:

"Do I have to purchase both products on the same day?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.
"

Yeah, you just buy the retail drive with any matching model# and buy the ata 100 card(It can be purchased together, or separately.), send the form, receipt(s)and upc from the boxes. I've done the previous rebate, and I bought the card about 60 days after the drive. No problem.

The card and the drive can be purchased SEPARATELY. Check the FAQ:

Do I have to purchase both products on the same day?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.

Do I have to purchase both products at the same store?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.

So buy em where they are cheapest.

Someone needs to clean up this post.

It looks like to me you must purchase the "Kit" (retail) drive for $99. But if you also purchase the 100 ATA card (I do not find any link to it) or price info.... you can get the drive AND the controller card for around $55 after the $50 rebate (for purchase of card AND drive)... and after the $30 off $100 coupon code (for the drive).

Can anyone post links to the drive and the controller card. It appears the controller card should be purchased from OD.
And breakdown the purchase of these in clearer terms.

Thanks.
Sounds like a great deal!
🙂

Just received my drive from Staples. It's the retail boxed version and it says it is kit K0192000U. It even has a sticker advertising the $50 rebate for the controller and drive combo. I also picked up the ATA100 controller this afternoon at the nearby B&M OD.

Here are the details:

Order the drive here (sku# 444012) - $99.99
Add the MSN starter pack here (sku# 446430) - $.01
Your total is now $100. Add $30 off $100 coupon from
here.
Your order should be $70 + tax.

I could not find the Maxtor ATA100 controller on the OD website (sku# 673881) so I had to pick it up at my local B&M OD for $49.99. I added something to get it over $50. I used the $15 off $50 coupon from here which I got from FW. Since the OD receipt shows the purchase price of $49.99 I expect Maxtor to rebate the full amount of $50 even though I used the $15 coupon for my overall purchase.

Another way:

Order the drive (sku# 444012) - $99.99
Add the MSN starter pack here (sku# 446430) - $.01
Your total is now $100. Add $30 off $100 coupon from
here.
Your order should be $70 + tax.

Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 PCI Adapter Card 443233 Each $49.98 ACCPAC Simply Accounting 8.0 442356 Each $79.94
Subtotal: $129.92
Coupon: -$30.00
Shipping: $0.00
*Total: $99.9

There's $80 rebate for simply accounting, $50 rebate for Maxtor card. Total for two orders will be about $40 + tax.

this drive isn't that hot since its only at 5400RPM unless you're using it for storage it then its ok. Not good for Single/Primary drive though

Every Maxtor I received from Staples was the full retail kit. I don't think Staples sells OEM Maxtor drives.

Just ordered the drive from Staples - thanks!

Even though OD doesn't offer it online, you CAN place an order at 1-888-463-3768 to check inventory at your local B & M and have it waiting there for you! The nice person who took my order put it in as $50 so I could use the $15 off $50 coupon!

This way, you don't have to worry about trying to find a store with one in stock.

I just sent in my rebate form from my 45 gig (5 extra gig) and ata/100 card. Within three days they sent me an email saying they've received it and it was being processed. I wish more places would be as kind as Maxtor. Good luck to all.
