2018 Summer Travel plan - Where did you go or are going?

Just came back from a 2 weeks vacation in London/Paris. We stayed at AirBnB and tried to get the locals experience. Took the bus and metro everywhere and walked for miles and miles all over the city into the nooks and crannies. Got lost plenty of time but that was half the fun. It was awesome and now am suffering from vacation withdrawal being back at work.

What is or was your vacation travel plan for summer? Just wanting to hear about other great travel plans.

Well I was thinking about going to Canada, but according to the guys on this forum, they are having a terrible heat wave up there. If I want heat, I'll stay in Texas.

Well...we were just planning a few short (4-5 day) rv trips around the PNW, but we got to make a surprise trip to CA to bring our youngest grandson (14 y.o.) up for the summer...so we'll still make some of the planned trips, but since most of them were with the local Elks RV group...all older people, no kids in the group, we'll have to change where we go for a couple of them.

I've heard stories of this "vacation" you speak of, but that would mean not working for two weeks and that concept is terrifying.

Summer vacation? I plan on vacationing under my ceiling fans til the weather's fit for humans. When that happens, I'll vacation in my back yard, and cut some more tree. I'll also go hiking in some local(ish) parks.

I remember those days...not very fondly. Working construction, if you don't work you don't get paid, and if you're not there, the company has every right to call the union hall and replace you...so, I only took vacations during the months when I was out of work for the winter. (if at all)

Nothing major this summer. I've been using bits and pieces of my vacation time for extended weekends. This summer I'll get to spend a couple days vacation moving, and a couple more days at a wedding in Reno. Other than that nothing planned since it will be hectic moving.

Yeah, that's how it was for me at McDonald's and the radio station. In my current career path, I've had so many vacations cancelled at the last minute because they needed me that I just stopped trying. I let work envelop me and became a work-a-holic. It actually bothers me when people take vacations now, and I need to get over that because it's not only wrong, it's harmful. I'm taking a new job in a few months and I'm going to take a week off to go down home. I've also promised myself that I'd try to find a life outside of work.

We'll see how that goes 😛

Bunch of hiking trips to the mountains of northern New England for me. I stay put during the summer ... it's generally beautiful here and I like to spend time with family/friends.

I do all my foreign travel in October-November and January-April

Headed to Amsterdam\Belgium\Luxembourg. Belgium beer is my favorite. Belgium waffles >>> all other breakfast foods. Twice fried belgium fries >> other fries. Best fish and chips restaurant I've been to. Gouda cheese from the Dutch. If all goes well I'll gain 10lbs from the trip.

Next summer probably lots of hiking in Banff\Jasper. Should know in about a month (I like to plan ahead)

Traveled around Germany for work/pleasure for about two weeks, then went to Amsterdam for a couple of days before heading home. Going to Chicago next week, then Whistler for a course. Hopefully not much else for the next while though because I have a lot of shit to do around the house!

Headed to Vancouver in 3 weeks for a 50k trail race, spending a few days exploring around the Whistler area. Over the holidays headed to Chile/ Argentina i.e. Patagonia for 2 weeks of hiking and horseback riding etc. We don't do a lot of long summer vacations as the wife owns a small business and if she isn't there no money comes in. The holidays are always slower though.

Anyone ever vacation in the Czech Republic? Would it be worth the trip?

I enjoyed Prague the ~4 or so days I was there way back when. Awesome city, but depends what kind of thing you are into when you vacation. I only went to one other town while in Czech, but it is not one that anyone would want to visit for any reason.

Went to Kyoto and Osaka in the hottest week. Really enjoyed the hot spring hotel in Japan, top rated food and hospitality.
